No questions to ask, just wanted to share that I managed to get down to Wigan for the adult skate night tonight and thoroughly enjoyed myself! Didn't get out at all last year down Morecambe with such shocking weather so plan to go to Wigan monthly for their adult night, might get me in shape for outdoors.

We have been quad skating with our local indoor group, hire a sports hall for a couple of hours on Tuesday evenings.

Got inlines a couple of weeks ago and learning how to use them ready for some longer distance outdoor skating when the weather is a bit warmer.

I usually try to head down to London a few times a year in the summer, Hyde Park is brilliant and really popular with rollerblading along with Slickwillies (skate shop) not far away too.  Infact most of their parks are pretty skateable.
if your into inline skating, check out Bill Stoppard Skating on YouTube,

Used to go regularly to the rink at Wigan, haven't been for a couple of years but it was always a good night out.

Derby roller world is well worth a visit.

I'm still at the Bambi on ice stage but would love to get good enough to skate 'in public'. Maybe I'll improve this year.

@MrSparkle I wouldn't be worried about going along, there were plenty of people just sticking to the edge, you could even just stick to a corner and not go round. There was a chap going round who was easily in his 80's, so a right mix of ages and abilities.

I’ve not skated for a couple of years since our local rink in Bury closed down. Prior to that we’d been going to the adults nights most weeks.

I’ve been threatening to dig my Bauers out and go over to Wigan for their adults sessions. I’ve just bought Mrs Binners these beauties so she can come with me as she’s a handy skater as well

@GolfChick - if you’re going next month I may well see you there

@binners yeah I'm gonna try n go at least once a month, it's an hour each way for me otherwise I'd go every fortnight.

If it’s the same guy then he used to skate at Bury. He was in his 80’s and would skate round with his headphones in listening to classical music.

@GolfChick - it’s an hour each way for me too, hence not making the effort. I really miss our local rink. It was brilliant! I’m definitely going get up off my lazy arse and make it over next month. Mrs B can christen her new skates

it’s seems a lot smaller version of the long lost Nevada in Bolton. They seem a tad officious. The website is just a massive list of  things you’re not allowed to do. It’s quite exhaustive

YOU’RE NOT HERE TO ENJOY YOURSELVES!!!

😀

Website is obviously still under construction so I won't hold the big list against them. I wonder if it's worth scoping out.

@binners - Kryptonics, nice! Lots of history there, my first skateboard had blue Kryptonics on, in fact it’s tucked away upstairs. I daren’t try riding it now, my balance is shot, and there’s far too much chance of me doing myself some serious damage.
I actually bought a rather nice Mindless longboard a couple of years or so back, but I just couldn’t keep my balance; it was never that good thirty-odd years ago!

Well, after saying for ages that I was going to do it, I finally had a mosy over to Wigan rink for the adults skate session last night

I went in my own as I suspected that having not skated for a good few years now, I may be a bit wobbly. ‘Wobbly’ would be the diplomatic way of putting it. I skated with the grace and elegance of a three-legged giraffe.

I absolutely bloody loved it though! And was getting a bit steadier on my 8 wheels after a couple of hours. You forget how much of a workout a couple of hours skating is too.

Wigan rink was great. A crowd largely of … ahem… ‘a certain age’, nice friendly vibe, decent tunes. What’s not to love?

So Wednesday nights in Wigan are definitely going to be a thing. Mrs Binners is coming with me next time

Wow, back when I was a teenager I used to go to JJB's Roller Rink in Wigan on a Friday night, as it was back then. Mum would pick us up at 9pm and we'd be home in time for the end of Auf Wiedersehn, Pet. Looks like it's the same place, and hasn't changed that much...
