am very interested in getting this (as it looks fantastic as a guitar teaching tool).
if you have played it,how did you find it?
I quite nejoy it as a game. If you dont play guitar at all, then you will struggle as it assumes you know the basics
Haven't tried it and I'm not entirely sure I want to as it's a fairly unique way of teaching, and not really used anywhere else as far as I can see.
You could start with a guitar and http://www.ultimate-guitar.com for tabs to get you going
We had it just before Christmas, hoped to be able to master the basics via some easy lessons.
It starts off well but after a few lessons it suddenly ups the bar and gets quite tricky. if you make a mistake it doesn't tell you what mistake you're making or let you advance, you just have to guess what you've done wrong.
I lost a bit of patience for it but will resume when I get time.
Got a copy on the way, basically just another attempt to actually learn to play since I tend to lose interest but I'm obsessive with games, might be a good combo. Will see, should be here on monday. Remember to order the cable! They're expensive bought alone
(might need to work out what the **** I was trying to achieve with the rewire on my strat, too... Many many switches, none of them connected up, confused)
Been tempted by this myself, after taking lessons a few years back and giving up.
Have a read of this: http://www.usgamer.net/articles/does-rocksmith-2014-really-work-review
Just been playing it... Have to say it's extremely clever, the way it raises and lowers difficulty on the fly. Occasionally it's pretty stupid- I bumped my guitar fractionally out of tune and it insisted I keep repeating one routine, slower and slower, because the one note on that string was screwing up the whole sequence- a novice wouldn't necessarily have figured out what was wrong there.
(actually I will say the tuner kind of sucks, it moves automatically onto the next string rather than letting you decide when you're done with a string, that's daft as it can pick up a ringing out note and declare it in tune when it's not)
I'm enjoying it so far, it makes drilling much more interesting than usual. It's doing things I don't like- like insisting on telling me to play the full length of the neck on sections that make far more sense to play on 2 strings- but nothing too terrible. The games and songs are a bit slow to restart mind. I've only done a couple of songs, the way it starts out basic and ramps up is very cunning.
Oh- extra songs are pretty expensive, £2.90 each! I didn't expect that.
I bought it for my son at Xmas as a tool to make the important but boring part of learning guitar, namely practice, more interesting. So far so good, he has been on it every day. Only time will tell how good it is though I guess.
Now my fingers hurt, stopping for the day. Just switched it onto colourblind mode, I'm not very colourblind but it just seems easier to keep track of the strings.
Playing in lead mode just now, it just started ambushing me with chords. Felt like a boss fight 😆 It'd be nice if it was clearer what level each part of a song is on tbh, that seems like an omission but it's not too bad.
Oh no wait, the songs are mostly £2.30, no idea where I got £2.90. Still quite pricey though. THere's an option to import Rocksmith 1 songs though- so you can buy a steam key for about £16, then pay the transfer fee and so get the whole lot for £23, which I suppose is good if you want those tracks...
Does it teach you about controlling your guitar with your volume and tone controls? Does it teach you about controlling your tone by where you pick on the string, with different picks or fingers? Does it teach you how to play with other musicians? Does it teach you about making choices?
What does it teach you?

Oh no - muso alert!
It teaches you practice can be fun, and what does endlessly running up and down scales alone in a bedroom teach you? If your a kid in a bedroom, this will be much more appealing than "Learn to play in a day" or frankly any other music book the parents could have bought for xmas. remember you need some ability before you start to play with others really, even if its a few chords and the minor pentatonic.
Now, if the kid enjoys, perservers with it, and forms a band, then the "higher" considerations will open up.
Dont knock what could be a way of communicating to those denied music lessons from mummy and daddy, or mates who can play. This gives you some practice, ipetus to get better, and you canplay what you want, rather than "Franjie and Johnnie" and all the shite from music books written 60 years ago. It will also give more feedback than any worthy lesson on youtube.
See it for what it is, rather than sneering pointlessly.
Think of it as a combination of basic lessons (it starts from "How to fit the strap"), interactive video tutorials, and a magic tab and chord book which can tell you when you're wrong, suggest ways to improve, simplify or slow down til you figure out a part, tell you when you're getting better, make exercises more interesting...
I think arguably it could encourage people to be a wee bit follow-the-dot and just responding to direction and guitar hero it rather than actually learning... But I'm not convinced. Maybe you can blag the easiest exercises like that but it won't last.
OP - having seen one or two or your vids I dunno what you'd get from it.
Have you considered getting guitar pro or downloading videos from the lick library site if there are specific songs/techniques you want to learn?
my apologies captain slow for my videos 😳
If it encourages people to play guitar surely that's a good thing. Ok out may be lacking in certain areas, but developing things like tone, vibrato and the like is a personal thing that can't be taught.
Stop digging for compliments ya big wuss...and it's about time you posted another 😉
Like jimster says if it motivates you to play then furry muff, but to be on topic for a mo, the question was in relation to the OP who already seems motivated and enjoys playing.
