Mini-me has asked for a robot from Santa this year...
He's 6 years old and "Santa" would be looking to spend up to £50
Has anyone bought anything recently that fits the bill?
Looking for something that will entertain him on Christmas day but won't get ignored from then on, maybe something that can be programmed (by a numpty) to do things other than its out the box tricks.
Over to you the great STW knowledge base!

Im led to believe that this is the thing for robot inclined brats this xmas. However at £100 they can make do with a cardboard box and "biddy-biddy" Twiki noises from Buck Rodgers like the rest of us.

This looks a fun intro to bbc microbit (stoner Jr has a microbit and has been having some success coding and learning stuff with a breadboard kit)

Ha ha!
Cardboard box robots, they were the days!
I do like that star wars one but a little too rich and maybe a little too complicated for him (8 years recommendation) for this year.
Not sure the Maplins one looks robot-y enough for him!
Thanks for the suggestion I'll look at them properly tonight over a G&T!
Are these any good?

Lego Mindstorms?
It's expensive, but holds it's value superbly and even though the included models are easy enough for an 8yo, there are no real limits to it. Lots used in universities.
Actually - there are some Xaiomi knock-offs which get surprisingly good reviews.

Otherwise under £50 WowWee have a good reputation, so their MiP or ChiPPies might be good.
I like the look of this wowwee one and it's a tenner under budget
Tenner cheaper on Amazon (because they don't pay tax, you don't pay VAT, etc, etc)
