why do we only see them in winter then? are they migratory, if so where are they native to?, or does their plume turn red in winter?
Just got me thinking after my cats brought in 3 in as many days! (no Christmas karma for me!!) - At least the cats keep up with the seasons as its usually rabbits at Easter!!
Google says they moult during the summer, making them not so good at flying so they skulk around in hedges.
There is a resident breeding population which stays here all year round. There is also a migratory population which just comes for the winter.

So why don't you see them then?
I see and hear them in winter, spring, summer and autumn. Maybe you are just not looking hard enough 🙂
So why don't you see them then?
Dunno, but its probably due to it being easier to find food or they're too busy reproducing or their is more foliage for them to hide in or you're just not looking in the right place.
To put it in context, the most populous bird in the UK is the Wren - how many of them do you see?
what about baby robins though?
