Is it worth investing any time in, or is it as bollock-numbingly awful as I suspect it's going to be?

Don't like Russell Crowe - but willing to put up with his smug delusions of adequacy if the rest of the film justifies it.

Ta!

Despite Russell Crowe I think it's quite a good version and certainly watchable on a dreary bank-holiday!

Saw it on the big screen. Quite enjoyable. He got a ribbing because of his accent, but really, that isnt a problem.
Watch it.

ISTR there was a publicity pic of RC and his bow, complete with band-aids on his drawstring fingers. I believe it got pulled.

I loved the beach landing scene, very "saving private Ryan" esque

the idea for this was quite good and crowe pushed for it to be made

robin hood was the bad guy sherrif of notts the good guy

but the studio got antsy and ridley scott had it rewritten and play it safe with the traditional story

Completely bloody appalling.

Medieval landing craft!!!! 👿

Put it this way, MsD was so bored she fell asleep in the cinema only to be woken by me muttering indignantly about how bad it was!

I like him.

At least he appears to be more honest in his reaction than the usual bumlickingtowingstudiolinemustsellthefilmatallcosts attitude that some of his counterparts adopt in the face of increasingly banal, predictable questions

Haven't seen the film yet but will watch it on +

The beach scene was the icing on a terrible cake, Ridley Scott so devoid of ideas he foisted a scene from another of his films onto his suffering audience.

Can you tell i hated it?

Apparently he has a 'midlands accent' in this and he has researched it.
Not one 'duck'or 'I'm off for me snap pal' anywhere.
I love how anything about Robin Hood is based around Nottingham yet, if you believe the legend, most of his life was based in north Derbys and South and West Yorks area.

Tim...very much from Nottingham.

Count the accents he goes through. That might keep you awake.

Wouldn't pay to watch it.

Hints of Irish and Yorkshire (as well as Aussie) in there.

At least Pepper Harrow is near the actual film location, if no where near Nottingham!

Accent is all over the place. But of Brummie, bit of scouse and some Aussie

Keeps us quiet until MOTD!!!

Bits of Scottish, Irish, Scouse and the Isle of Man identified so far. 😀

Me neither Russell, me neither. 🙂

Cate Blanchett's accent isn't fantastic either.
But at least it's consistant.

I'm still trying to figure out why the English Longbowmen ran down onto the beach rather than remaining on the cliffs, retaining the tactical advantage of the higher ground...

Or, given the appearance of numerous landing craft in the background, am I over-thinking this?

And why's that bloke wearing a german helmet... 😉

Well that was a waste of 2 1/2 hours of my life!

At least I wasn't paying it full attention...

How that was allowed to air without every scene with Crowe in being redubbed, or even reshot with him actually speaking in a pseudo Irish accent is beyond me! 😕

There's a funny interview somewhere where Mark Lawson asks him what he was trying to do with the accent and he gets really pissed off. 🙂

Much of the beach fight scene was shot in west wales.
What a very below average film.

It really was awful wasn't it? 😀

Some of it was so bad it was quite funny:
The accents, the cliches, the script, and that invasion scene were hilarious.
Surely they must have meant some of it to be amusing?

Let's not forget the amazing lack of horseshit on the streets or any other attempt to make Nottingham look in any way realistic.
In fact, it looked strangely like Hobbiton at times. 🙂

Genuinely the worst film I've seen for ages.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.

^^me too^^

Though thought the Movie quite entertaining, never really understood what Robin Hood did pre the "rob the rich, feed the poor" persona he portraid on numerous TV shows, so was good to see the story from (almost) the start..
As far as accents go he was quite awful (I've never known a "midland" accent like it and I have family living in North Notts), though the acting quite beleivable and that of his fellow actors, Kate was as scrumptious as ever , so I'd hand out a 7/10 with the -3 for the stupid landing craft scene 🙄
Thought the filming and scenes well shot though, so Ridley dolled out a safe one here.

I got bored of it and rather confused with who was who/what was what. Missed the invasion scene, I'd gone to bed by then!

I found it rather strange that he could go out, rob the grain wagon, get it all back to the farm, then him and three mates could hand sow 5000 acres all before breakfast.

Then I realised I was overthinking things a bit. 😉

You can tell from this that Russell Crowe takes it (and himself) very seriously though.

Cant see why anyone would moan about the accent.. Your own local accent will most likely have changed substantially within your lifetime.

No one even knows what the accent was from that period so why all the fuss??

It was more he struggled to hold one accent for the duration of a scene that was the problem. That and it was rubbish.

Why is anyone surprised?
Wasn't there enough hints that Crowe is one of the worst twitchy, actORs in the business in The Insider, Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander.

His best was LA Confidential, downhill from there.

i watched it, the landing craft scene was hilarious imo.
however, "worst movie of all time"?
have you seen the kevin costner version of robin hood?????
at least crowe tries to do some type of accent other than his own, even if it is of dubious quality.

The accent is the least of the film's problems, the principles being terrible direction and editing.

I like costner and his escapades to WAR WICK castle

Morgan Freeman is an excellently cast Moor as well

Should have had Danny De veto as Little John and it would have been perfect casting.

The Costner version was great fun, apart from Kevin Costner.
He only has one facial expression - constipated squirrel.
The Errol Flynn version is surely the best film though - not a buckle un-swashed.

Not Ridley Scott's finest hour, really.
'Specially after watching Blade Runner again the other night.

Many times, it's excellent. 🙂
Anyone seen the other Robin Hood that came out at about the same time as RH-POT? The one starring Patrick Bergin and Uma Thurman. That was another rubbish interpretation of the story.

No, Richard Greene was the best ever.

(It was in the days of black and white TV)

At least the Costner version had Alan Rickman.
(I can't believe that was 1991)

Unfortunately it also had that awful No1 Bryan Adams song
