Just had a council roadsweeper trundle round our estate sweeping the gutters* - they seem to do it every couple of months, and while we sometimes have issues with surface runoff after heavy rain, the drains are rarely blocked.
Yet the main A road at the top of the village never seems to get swept, the gutters are full of mud, wind and debris, drains are blocked and often sprouting weeds, and it regularly gets 'flooded" enough to cause temporary issues in heavy rain.
Is the main road likely to be the responsibility of the county council or Highways Agency, so subject to different rules/budgets/priorities than our village roads?
*have to say, watching him trundle past while I was struggling to write a long legal letter for work, I quite fancied his job!
I think it depends on the road. My understanding is that major routes will be adopted/managed by Highways (County Council), whilst smaller roads and estate roads will be adopted by Local Council.
