Hey Francophiles, I wonder if I may have some assistance de toi
Here’s our 2 week French holiday plan.
Week one … road trip (there’ll be two families for this part with 2 kids each … 2 girls aged 12 with a boy and girl both 9)
2 nights in Colmar
2 nights in Annecy
3 nights in/on the Verdon (20min south of Lac Castillon)
Week two … campsite on Cote d’Azur near Port Grimaud (just us for this part)
Please can any of you lovely people advise what we should do, see, eat and drink at any, or close to any, of these vocations (which, apart from Colmar, are already booked)
I appreciate that we may have chosen very touristy location, but what hidden gems do you have or what/where should we really avoid.
Merci
For your Port Grimaud stay I would recommend a trip to Cavalaire and St. Maxime.
Also worth a trip up to the village of Gassin. It's beautiful and only a few miles drive.
For provisions shopping you'll enjoy Geant at La Foux.
St. Tropez is about 5 miles distant.
Verdon = Gorge surely you can have a couple of days around there easily.
When you're at Annecy, pop over to Chartreuse and buy some delicious liqueur from the monks.
On a nice day drive round to col De Forclaz down at the down end of the lake. There is a cafe/shop but the best bits are: a) The view b) There is a short astro-turf covered ramp off which the paragliders launch themselves into thin air.
If you are taking bikes, the piste-cyclable is a pretty good way of getting around, but not very exciting.

Verdon
Camping de l'Aigle is a really nice quiet site with views over the lake.
St Tropez isn’t worth the traffic jam, IMO. If you must go, get the boat from St Maxime
Grasse is worth a visit if you like fine French perfumes
Re Verdon: we've spent a couple of weeks in Moustier saint Marie, a truly terrifying drive (I blame the hire car) away at other end of the gorge. One of the most beautiful places i've stayed, with some nice walks/scrambles up the dramatic cliffs behind. And you can hire pedalos and head up into the gorge itself. Some good mtb round there too (trundled on xbike, wrong choice). Really nice bit of the world.
