Any ideas for new shoes. I've had Saucony Peregrines that are fine for technical trails (I run chalky coastal paths in these) and muddy winter running but not so great for anything ten miles plus.
I'll carry on using this model for the winter as Ice got a couple of pairs with a few miles left in them.
Looking for a shoe suitable for hardback forest trails, single-track, nothing too sketchy. Would like something comfortable for all day running and hiking.
I'm a bit averse too loads of cushioning though. I've had a couple of pairs of Max Cush road shoes and they gave me terrible top of shin and lower knee problems.
Been thinking of Hoka Challenger, Pegasus Trail and the regular road version as the tread seems ok for a bit of off road.
All suggestions considered.
Cheers
As you already have Saucony, the Ride15 TR is a good shout.
Nike Pegasus Trail 4 are absolutely perfect for that kind of work. They struggle in the slop but for easy trails and the roads that link them they're perfect.
They're super comfy too, and I've ran an ultra in (one of) my pairs.
Inov8 Parkclaw (or whatever they call it) is also really good for the surfaces you described - though I found the fit to be a bit odd. Normally bang on a 11.5 in Inov8 shoes but found the Parkclaw's a touch too small.
Love my Nike Pegasus Trail 4 too. Like the running shoes equivilent of a gravel bike. So comfy
I use Hoka ATR challengers for exactly this. Can't fault them.
I have a pair of Hoka Torrent 2 and they're good for road/trail but yesterday in the wet slop i had no grip whatsoever. They're fine when it comes to hardpack and gravel surfaces but once the mud got an inch or so deep they lost all traction.
I’m a bit averse too loads of cushioning though
Is not compatible with any Hoka.
Horrible, hateful shoes.
Adidas Terrex Speed Ultra are my road-to-trail shoe of choice currently. Loads of deals to be had if you can bear to be seen in last year's colours...
Thought you were talking about bike shoes by the title. Get away with you, god invented the wheel, and running is sooo last century.
If you want something super squishy then the Nike Pegasus Trail and Terr Kieger's are great summer / dry shoes, however the grip is definitely wanting in anything muddy, the lugs are perhaps 5mm at the most.
My favourite long distance shoe for covering all sorts at the moment is the Scott Supertrac RC2, firm cushioning and low profile sole unit, I think you can get them for about £80 from Sportsshoes at the moment. Otherwise the Inov8 Parkclaw could be for you, but I'm not keen on the mesh upper material they use as it always wears out on the outside of the shoe.
Answer in the thread I think. Pegasus is almost always the answer but the Hoka Speedgoats are very good as well. Advantage of Pegasus is you can use them on road as well, the full air sole is one of the best midsoles of any shoe.
Like the running shoes equivalent of a gravel bike.
That is a perfect description of Peg 4 Trails, great for most terrain, but struggle on really technical stuff.
Scott Ultra RC.
