Ok email sent let's see what happens.

I have checked the dates and the police only actually viewed the video in June, so first contact with Askews was in writing to get driver details (don't know exactly what they said) at the end of June.

Jeez, dunno how you had the patience to stand there and let that fool shout at you like that! Just goes to show there are zero intelligence requirements before you can be put in charge of something capable of killing someone.

Company should offer to buy the video off the OP and use it in their staff induction training.

Short summary of response from the company:

- Apologies, they are keen cyclists/motorbikers themselves, they take all driving offences very seriously, etc
- Driver left their employment soon after the incident
- They supplied to the police the driver's name, address, mobile number, and details from the van's gps tracker.
- They asked what the issue was but police would not say
- They would have done something if they knew sooner
- Apparently this is a "slanderous forum"
- Spreading the video online is unfair because they did nothing wrong and did not even know about it
- Threats of legal action if the video keeps spreading (I have now disabled the above link)

No comment from me for now. Will not be able to post for a day or 2 anyway.

Threats of legal action if the video keeps spreading

Sound like pricks.

I would send the video to Cycling weekly. They can try suing them if they like.

Threat of legal action for sharing that video!!! On what possible grounds? It's an entirely factual account of the event.

Basically they are using that to bully you. A little bit like the employee tried to bully you. I spot a pattern here..

I was kind of on the fence about it when they appeared to have apologised, however the threat make me think 'xxxx them'

I also find it astounding that I can avoid being hauled up by the police simply by changing address. If I'd known that before my last house move I could have got up to all kinds of enjoyable shenanigans safe in the knowledge the police would never be able to trace me...🤔🤔

100% this. They're not bothered about the shocking behaviour of one of their employees, or what went wrong or how to prevent it happening again.... they just want to shut down any mention of what was done by their company and prevent any comeback on them

Threats are cheap... A cease and desist letter will cost money.

There is zero legal jeopardy for the OP publishing the video, or anyone else sharing it, unless it is accompanied by a commentary which is false and defamatory. It was filmed in a public place, and has not been edited to present a false impression.

The company is clearly panicking about it, but they might as well not bother apologising if they are going to threaten OP in this way.

There's nothing sladerous or libelous against the company in that video footage. But, you could easily edit it to hide the company name and share it that way.
road.cc for an edited version and the story of how the police have the name and address as supplied by the company, yet still took no action.

I was thinking that too. But then they started threatening legal action and I thought, why bother?

Oh dear, apologies for bullying behaviour from a rogue employee and then bully you directly.

– Spreading the video online is unfair because they did nothing wrong

To be honest, I think it's unfair to blame the company for the attitude of one driver who is no longer in their employ.

I do think however that it's perfectly fair to blame them for their shitty attitude subsequently.

and did not even know about it

That being the case, how could they have

supplied to the police the driver’s name, address, mobile number, and details from the van’s gps tracker.

for something they didn't know about?

– Threats of legal action if the video keeps spreading (I have now disabled the above link)

If they are threatening legal action, they might first want to learn the difference between slander and libel. That's not the most robust of foundations for a case.

Nobbers. They could very easily have made this right, I had every sympathy for them until that bullshit non-apology.

I do quite like being a member of a ‘slanderous forum’, though.

Me too!

Plus what Cougar has said up there. I had sympathy for the company up until the ridiculous threat to sue. On what grounds exactly? Post the link again OP and let people on here share. Their van, their employee (at the time of the incident), therefore they must shoulder some of the blame. What kind of arsehat apologises and then threatens stupid legal action in the same paragraph?

At least it’s a good job the company isn’t named on the forum, otherwise Google might pick it up.

Please don't start that.
