Who has priority here?

Road Markings

For arguments sake lets say 2 cars arrive at the junction at the same time, one trying to turn on to the road the small white van is on and the other trying to to turn right into a minor road from the road the small white van is on.

I ask because most days people are flashing and beeping others as no one has a clue, except the white van man who has priority always! 😉

EDIT: unsure if the photo is showing..

I'd say the one turning right off the main road into minor road. Main road takes priority.

Can't see the first pic at all and the second one is hidden behind a privacy notice.

Major to minor would normally take priority however those markings suggest to me that the major to minor slip must give way to the minor to major slip.

/edit - I could see it, now it's gone. Good work imgur!

I should also say that the double dashed white lines appeared recently, which has made most think the minor has priority over the major.

Still can’t see it as they still value my privacy. That’s the only site that happens on.

priority is for the traffic planners to sort out that entire clustershambles

IMO traffic should never be allowed to cross both ways across a single gap in a dual carriageway; either make cars coming out of the sideroad go left and do U (or much better, go to a roundabout if close) or else make traffic on the other side go past and then come back

Neither have priority over the other.

I've nothing to base that on other than a very distant/murky conversation with someone who did something very boring on this very subject. They were drinking weak larger.

+1 on interpreting that as traffic turning right into the side street has to give way to those turning right coming out of the side street.

Bloody hell, that's a confusing mess of a junction. Common sense and courtesy should take priority, but I guess that rarely happens!

Personally I'd say that traffic coming from the main road (heading west turning north) has to give way to other traffic as there is the small double dashed white lines, whereas the other traffic (heading east to go west) only has long single white dashed lines.
Awful road layout and really doen't help.

Glad to see most people here seem confused too! There are 8 of these spaced about 100-200 metres apart.

Who has priority here?

In true STW style I'm going to say the BMW driver

defo the SUV has priority. If I was cycling I'd give way to everything.

Hold on though, is that a white Astra van in the photo? Everyone knows that gives way to nothing!

I'd say if on the minor road to the left of the frame you give way to on-coming traffic from the road to the right i.e. the major road. You can pull into the middle section with priority over the traffic turning right from the major road as they are crossing a double give way also, so have to give way to you if you are in the centre and also to traffic on the major road not turning. If you are on a bike everyone wants to kill you and I am aware I contradicted myself in that too.

I would honestly say if they got to the doubles at the same time then the major road has priority if there is no one in the middle turning to the right of the image. If there is someone in that area then they give way to them. However, none of this is clear from the lines it's just common sense to me!

my guess is that traffic already ON the main road has priority over side road traffic.
Unless its in Thailand /Cambodia etc, in which case the larger vehicle will assume priority

Got one of those near me. Traffic pulling out turning R has priority over traffic leaving the main road turning right.

I predict that the novelty of this may take a while to sink in with your local drivers, and proceed cautiously!

If I click on the little bit of text I can see one picture, but not enough of the overall layout to understand the context. Is it a single land dual carriageway (with a bike lane in one direction) and a minor (also dual single lane?) road joining, with gap in the central reservation? Traffic on the minor road should give way to traffic on (and turning off) the major road.

Who has priority here? The definite answer is the cyclist in the cycle lane who has priority over both sets of turning traffic. Which actually scares the sh1t out of me because the cyclist is probably the last thing that turning drivers from either direction will see as they try to work out who goes first whilst looking only at each other.

We have two of these (literally 100m apart) near us.

One has the 'give way' dashed lines on the slip road as in the photo above, and as such traffic turning right from the slip road has to give way to traffic turning right out of the side road. This should be obvious really.

The slipway on the other junction does not have the 'give way' lines and as such I treat traffic on it as having priority over traffic turning right out of the side road.
My reasoning for this is that there's a give way sign/lines where the side road meets the larger road, and this means that traffic should give way to traffic from BOTH left and right. I'd like to know if this is correct!!
