A worthy aim…
I note the page has been put together by someone who wants to fund a hovercraft and name it Flying Farage, and not by the RNLI themselves, so no guarantee of success….
i imagine the originator of this thinks this would upset farage. i think the reality is the contrary. any publicity is good publicity as far as the nicotine-stained man-frog is concerned.
At the end of the day it's raised nearly quarter of a million far and it looks like it's going directly to RNLI do do what they want with, so it's probably actived what it set out to do. Who cares what Farage does or doesn't think.
The bloke behind this is "Man Behaving Dadly" on the socials, he's built up a modest following for comedy posts. Seems like one of the Good Guys.
The only vehicle that should carry the name of farage, is a muck spreader.
Any chance welsh farmer could name his(if he has one- of maybe a farmer friend)
Burnham-on-Sea have a couple of hovercraft, but they’re an independent rescue organisation, not RNLI; they get a couple of hundred call-outs every year, because the beach between Burnham and Brean is around six miles long and at low tide the water is nearly a mile out, and comes in at around 3mph, but there’s large expanses of thick, deep soft mud, and people walk out to try to get to the water, ignoring tide times, then get stuck. Until they got the hovercraft, bought through donations, the boat crews and Coastguards had to rely on duck boards, which took a lot of valuable time. And there were casualties.
One was a five year old girl, who’d wandered down the beach and got stuck. The first hovercraft was bought after a fundraiser by the Western Daily Press newspaper, in memory of the little lass who drowned before the rescue team could get to her… 😢
Since then, nobody has drowned, hovercraft have more than proved their worth in similar circumstances, like Morecambe Bay, in floods, etc.
don't doubt for a moment that the motivation is sound but farage doesn't need the publicity. happy to see the rnli receive more funds for sure.
