Some stats on risk (of fatalities) from RoSPA - (P4, Fig:3).
Basically motorboating and scuba diving are 'Very High Risk'. So is cycling.
However driving or being a passenger in a car is 'High Risk'.
.
I am off wild swimming, because it is clearly safer than driving or cycling. 😉

no linky?

years ago did work with the BMC, Sports Council and HSE - surprisingly fishing was the most dangerous "sport" * high aged partipation rate with risk of heart attacks and messing about in boats when drunk

horse riding was right up there due to serious head injuries

*I don't think fishing is a sport either its a pastime albeit competitive in the cake making / village gala sense

I think you'll find hunting, fishing and shooting are sports. Everything else is a game or a pastime.

Just checked out RoSPA's website.

After a quick scan it strikes me that there's a surprising amount of crap on there.*

* that was a high risk comment.

looking at c cycling racing is "extreme" but cyclocross and camel racing are mere low category risks - my house renewal had a note specifically excluding time trialling this year
