Better than I expected it to be. Some reasonably smart writing.

Shit title though. Nearly as bad as Gangster Squad.

same here, nice to see some decent telly rather than celebrity felching on ice in the jungle factor

Not a fan of the ex-Spooks lead blokey - would have preferred someone like Philip Glenister, i.e. a more geezer-like character. But he's grown on me as has the series.

Thinking about it I probably enjoy the use of language more than anything else. Plus I'm always a sucker for Victoriana.

I love it, but it has to be said: The good stuff tends to obscure some pretty ropey plots

Been enjoying this series too, thought it would be pants but proven wrong, only complaint is i have to really pay atention to the dialogue due to its use of the period language and it being so quiet its easy to miss key moments/clues.

Maybe stick to something on ITV then...

The dialogue works well, I guess they have worked hard for it to be authentic?
New fangled technology being introduced. Just slightly short of being steampunk but opening up the possibility for other productions.

I've been enjoying it - it's like a cross between the modern day Ripper based series Whitechapel and Channel 4's City of Vice from a few years ago.

I was exactly the same, loved the first episode but really struggled to hear them. Ran the next episodes through the external speakers on the DVD/pseudo surround system and suddenly it made sense.

I assume it has been mastered for the subsequent DVD sales and to my ears is inpenetrable on my standard tv speakers.

I think its excellent too, love the language and cod Victorian Environment.

Did anyone else notice the continuity error where the cuts on the City detective's face swapped sides and then back again?

Liking it a lot. Jerome Flynn hasn't aged well though. But he does look right for the part.

but thanks for insulting me

sorry. 😕

Was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek dig at ITV (having had the misfortune to see some of "Mr Selfridge" yesterday)

I've enjoyed it, it reminds me of the Robert Downey Jr Sherlock Holmes films in style. I liked those. I quite enjoyed Whitechapel when it was on.

So my thought for the day is wondering if the yank doctor is the ripper?

Enjoying it a lot, but it really needs good speakers for me to hear it and the continuity is lax. The scratches swapping from cheek to cheek last night was distracting to say the least.

Not one comment about Police Brutality and cover ups!

This is meant to be STW – you should all be ashamed of yourselves!

We need a public enquiry into this documentary as I’m sure that City of London Police inspector was altering his notebook, and the Police and Prostitutes are too friendly as well.

😉

Yup, enjoyed it here too..
The Beeb are putting out some belting telly at the minute..

This, and Africa for example.

But, on the flip side, some complete shite like "Miranda."

Oh well, Yin and Yang and all that.

OMG I love Game of Thrones and think Bronn is an excellent charachter, I had no idea it was Soldier Soldier geezer.

On topic though quite enjoying Ripper Street, needs more ripper content though.

I'm glad others were struggling to hear it. Thought i might be going deaf.
Excellent series, could do with being a tad longer, they seem to solve the crimes rather quickly...not as quick as The Bill though

At the conclusion of the entertainment I find myself conversing with my dear wife in a somewhat unfamilar manner. Indeed one that is unsuitable for the times in which we now reside. I fear it is catching.

Great performance from Jerome Flynn last week and Iain Glen is always mustard in whatever he appears in.

Looking forward to tonight's installment.

Hopefully it’s been successful enough to get another series. The DVD / Blu-Ray is out on 18th of this month for those interested.
