RIP Steve Wright of Radio 2
Passed today.
Had many a shart out from him over the years. Last one for my 50th.
One of show biz's nice guys.
when a child at school we won a radio show for all schools when i lived in the Thames Valley and got to appear on the Reid and Wright show (210 Radio) and whilst Mike Reid was aloof and not too friendly, Steve Wright was one of the nicest (famous) people i even met. Left a lasting impression on us kids.
RIP. Gotta say, I was a fan of the afternoon show in the 80's
Hat's off to the R2 newsreader who did a good job at holding it together, he clearly got handed a piece of paper in the middle of the 17:00 bulletin
R I P. Steve
I was a fan. He was good at interviewing quite difficult slebs.
Big fan here. I know he was marmite but he had my sense of humour and has basically been a presenter for as long as I listened to radio. It almost got dusty in my workshop listening to Sara Cox trying not to lose it after coming back on air following the anouncemnt. Very sad.
Yeah really sad news. I'd gone off him (well his shows) in recent years, but have good memories from radio 1 when I was a kid.
Just heard Sara Cox and Bobby travel, both really struggling. Got very dusty in my car as well!
RIP Steve.
Oh man... that sucks! ☹️
He always seemed like quite a nice bloke. Serious jockin' got me through many a Friday afternoon!
Steve Wright in the Afterlife? Fond memories of his radio 1 show.
Still waiting for my photo of Patch the dog...
Nooo! R I P Steve, great dj.
No age.
Use to listen to him in the early to late 90’s.
69 is no age at all. Proper institution. Sad day
RIP Steve I used to enjoy his afternoon show but he got flamed on here quite a bit
No breathin. (No g)
Stay classy you guys.
I loved him on radio 1 back in the day with Easylife, The Daleks, Hopeless the Weather Girl and many more. Then on to radio 2 with Ask Elvis and the guy who did the impressions of Jeremy Vine and Alan Bennett etc.
He was perfect in the afternoons, silly, irreverent and always fun. He got me through to the end of the day and made the afternoons something to look forward to.
RIP Steve, you were one of a kind.
Loved his stuff back in the day, but I always wondered what dirt he had on the Director General of the BBC, because there was no other reason for him to be on the radio in the last decade, he was bloody awful.
It took me many years to really appreciate his quality as a broadcaster.
I still tell my kids not to get crushed or mashed when they leave the house.
He was great in the eighties.
Loved listening to him in the car, some real laugh-out-loud moments. I was on Ask Elvis once and due to being nervous and shut in a glass fronted office at work with everyone pointing and laughing at me, came across as rather one-dimensional! Steve gave me a comically hard time and well deserved... Great guy, so many catch phrases over the years 🙂
Cryin (no g)
Whilst I'd gone off what he did some years ago, he was great back in the 90s when I was a teen. Passing so soon after retiring makes me wonder why I spend so much time at a job I take no pleasure from.
RIP Steve and condolences to those he leaves behind.
Great show Steve!
Used to enjoy his show, as an apprentice in the very early nineties, doing crap repetitive jobs like building wiring looms.
RIP
The soundtrack to my weekday afternoons through the 80s. RIP Steve.
Spatula, spatula.
RIP (R1) Steve
I only remember his Radio 1 days and unfortunately really disliked his programme, but then I was perhaps not the target audience. However he was an innovative broadcaster who few had a bad word for and stood out in a profession sorely in need of more like him. No age at all, sad news.
Was never his biggest fan after the early Radio 1 days, but some lovely stories coming out about how good he was with fans and colleagues starting out in the business, sounds like a genuine, caring guy.
I was sad to hear that too yesterday. A bit of an icon, have good memories of Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Radio 1 which was excellent radio, the kind of which just doesn't happen much (at all?) any more. I really struggled with the serious jockin' stuff when I stumbled across his show again but then I learned to just take it for the tunes and he really was an excellent radio presenter.
Like others I've also heard nothing but good things about the person too, but never got to meet him. He was certainly classy when his Radio 2 day job came to an end.
Funny in the eighties. Mr Spoons, Ask Elvis etc. Incredibly annoying in recent years, singing over records, constant counting down to serious jock in’. Best wishes to his family though. 69 was no age.
The news came as a bit of a surprise yesterday. Condolences to his family.
RIP. Seems that it was very suddenand not expected.
Really enjoyed his show in the 1980's. First of his kind in the UK. "Zoo Radio"? I suppose I was his target audience back then?
However, he should of been retired years ago, although saying that he probably wasn't the worst, there are some much worse DJs on the radio.
