Bloody hell. Had no idea he was ill.
That's a great loss - he just had a style I really found warming.
RIP

About a year ago he did not seem well as his voice was a little weak but he seemed to improve.

Really enjoyed 15 Storeys High when it was on. Just looked it up and that was almost 20 years ago.

Gutted. Saw him live many moons ago in Brighton, absolutely hilarious then and his TV work was always gold.

Really very sad. A massive loss to comedy and life in general. Cancer can do one.
His performances on 8 out of 10 cats were always great.

Nooooooooooo! Whhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyy! Noooooooooooooo! AAAAhhhhhhhhhh!

I see what you did there.

This is really sad, I knew he had been ill over recent years. I've always liked him, his early days on 8 out of 10 cats are brilliant.

Saw him live many moons ago

Likewise I used to often see him on the London circuit when he was on the rise, loved his dry & absurd take on stand-up.

🙁

Absolutely gutted, loved him on 8 out of 10 cats does countdown. One of my favourite clips posted above, however when he and Miles Jupp were on together, especially the ‘try it without a spit’ were some of my favourite comedy moments

Yeah, sad day. Saw him live many years ago and 15 Stories High remains a firm favourite. Often had me in tears on Countdown.

Such a likeable, funny bloke. One of the few comics who regularly had me laughing out loud, especially on 8 out 10. It won't be the same without him.

If you haven't seen his sitcom 'fifteen storeys high' I urge you to seek it out. It is outstanding and a mystery why it isn't well know.

The episode'Blue Rat' is so well written.

he was a top lad.

It was easy to miss when it was aired (seem to remember it being on at around 11pm and not well advertised) and all pre streaming days. Not even sure where I could watch it now, it is not on iPLayer.

Add '15 minutes of misery' to your list too. The audio precursor to 15 stories high. Available from podcast sites

Simon Munnery talked about joke he may or may not have written. Seems appropriate now. "Went to a funeral recently... Caught the reef"

Not since Bowie's death a celebrity's death taken me aback so much. 😢
Saw him at what was Bristol Colston hall about 10 years ago. He started with a rant about charity collectors on the street, his name for them was chunts. Later in the set he announced he was a Chelsea supporter, immediately someone in the audience shout 'CHUNT!'. The place erupted 🤣

This, from Harry' Hill's piece in the Guardian:

He took his illness in typically dry style. I heard he was in a hospice for a bit of a rest. I called him up. “Wow!” I said. “A hospice, what’s that like?” “It’s OK,” he said “… and the sex is amazing.”

🙂

For some reason this really hit me as I heard it over the radio while driving today.

Not usually affected by "celeb passings" too. I honestly though I'd mis-heard it at first!

The channel never got turned over when Sean was on because I knew that I'd be crying with laughter in the next few minutes 🙂

I feel fortunate to have met Sean whilst running a venue bar at the Edinburgh Festival circa 2007. Whilst it was a brief encounter at 3am when we were both a few pints deep, he came across as a genuinely lovely chap who was happy to talk bollocks, and so effortlessly funny!. Having met quite a few well regarded comics during that time, he was by far the nicest. RIP Locky

I was sat late last night watching an episode of cats and he made an A-Z cocktail of drinks and during the actual show (not much countdown lots of cats) he dropped a line on the bloke from nobbers from Chelsea or whatever it's called about posh people giving their kids stupid names, laughed out loud and woke the dog. Top comedian, deft, dry and very self aware. A great shame he's left us.

Totally gutting. He was a brilliant comedian, and from the comments of those who knew him, clearly a great person.

I haven't watched fifteen storeys, but I loved his character in Ideal, even though he was only in it for three episodes.

Tears of laughter, now tears. Paul Ritter and Sean Lock in the same year, absolutely gutted.
Carrot in a box, rectum of the year and his comment on Rachel's ski gear are just a few bits of comedy genius I'll never forget. RIP.

Just read that. Doesn't surprise me that he came up with - and was good mates with - Bill Bailey. Both originals, both masters of the absurd, both very, very funny and both come across as thoroughly likeable individuals.

Such a shame, but what a man, what a comedian and what an incredible legacy of funny, yet cutting, material.

Hopefully people will still be streaming his stuff in 30 years time in the same way that we might stream old footage of Hendrix
