Hugely under appreciated and under-rated.
RIP indeed.

A sad day, discovered him via the first Buena Vista Social Club album and then through The Band's work - amazing music. RIP Robbie

You may want to revisit the lyrics 🙂

I’ve been listening to his eponymous solo album (the one with somewhere down the crazy river) quite a bit recently. That and Peter Gabriel’s So are two of the best mid-80s rock albums for me. Never really listened to The Band so will go and have a listen..

Sadly far too many wonderful musicians whose music has informed my life over the last twenty, thirty, forty and fifty years have passed away recently. Robbie was one, I ‘discovered’ him when his eponymous album was released, and ‘Somewhere Down The Crazy River’ started getting airplay. Something about his voice, and lyrics instantly made me sit up and pay attention, and get the album at the first opportunity.
I’ve since followed it with his later albums, and some of The Band’s as well, but that first album remains an absolute favourite.

Sadly never got to see him play.

RIP, Robbie.
