Aged 82, passed in hospital following a bout of pneumonia.

There's a nice tribute on the Beeb.

You know, I never watched that. I probably should.

I have half a memory that it was notorious for being pervy when it came out. Probably not by today's standards though.

Sad news. I can hear his distinctive voice in my head plain as day.

You're born, you take shit. You get out in the world, you take more shit. You climb a little higher, you take less shit. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what shit even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake son.

Brilliant actor with such a distinctive voice. Wicked sense of humour too.

Popbitch reports that he was liked by airline cabin crew (high praise indeed) and was known for signing autographs for their children "Love Dumbledore".

He was great in The Singing Detective and Perfect Strangers.  Our children loved him as Dumbledore.  Despite being older teenagers and a recent adult - they are all gutted.

I saw him on the stage a couple of times, he had the same presence as he does on film. He did a great line in cockney villains (considering he was Irish). The Cook, the Thief, His wife and her Lover was the first time I saw this.

One of my favourite examples of his sense of humour 🤣🤣

I think the way he played John Harrison in Longitude was one of his best roles (a series that deserves far more recognition than it ever received ❤️)

I read on the BBC website he was famous for "Harry Potter and the Singing Detective". I didn't see that one, was it any good?

Little know fact - Dennis Potter was Harry's uncle.
