You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Not a huge fan but I was just about to play some Mark Lanegan earlier on. Haven't thought about him for ages. Love the stuff he did with Isobel Campbell.
Legend. Saw him at the leadmill a few years back. His book sing backwards and weep is absolutely brutal.
RIP
Ah ****, loved so much of his music over the years 🙁
Gutted. One of my favourite singers of all time. And yep, his book was unreal.
RIP Mark you were the absolute bollocks.
Oh wow, that's a shock. Not long ago read Sing Backwards and Weep - that man lived a full life. Too many drugs though and he knew it. I guess that's what got him in the end? Shame he never got hold of Liam Gallagher before he went. RIP big man
Sounds like it was Covid19 related - Lanegan went completely deaf after contracting coronavirus and, later, suffered cracked ribs and breathing problems. After being rushed to hospital, he spent months in bed, “slipping in and out of a coma”. Very sad
a recent collaboration I loved. Great album
I'm reeling from this as it's so unexpected. I love the screaming trees, love his solo stuff, particularly 'bubblegum', love his singing with QOTSA, particularly 'hanging tree"
Gutted.

Re the Liam Gallagher spat
Gutted had tickets to his last two concerts in Manchester but missed them due to work. He could sing the telephone book and it would sound amazing. Loved the variety of genres he covered. I was listening to this earlier today.
Stuff with UNKLE was brilliant
Re the Liam Gallagher spat
I love that 🙂
IT was the hiding behind the bodyguards stuff particularly made me laugh... you just know it was true!
He played hebden bridge trades club a few years ago but I missed it and it was the biggest missed gig regret I can remember
Re the Liam Gallagher spat
I love that 🙂
Actually I might correct that I don't know if it was a spat he just really really hated Liam Gallagher. LG would've been scared of him
Damn it all, I found out about this about ten minutes ago while reading stuff on Flipboard, and I’m sad and angry, and in a weird sort of way, almost resigned to and nearly numb to stuff like this.
I spent the day in Salisbury with my late partner’s family, and for the first time in eleven months, I managed to get through the day without ending up in bits, it being the anniversary of her death, and finding out this happened to someone who’s music I’ve loved for years, since the first Screaming Trees album in fact, and I’ve found all I’m able to do is just sigh heavily - I just have nothing left.
I was lucky enough to see Screaming Trees play The Fleece in Bristol, about as intimate a venue as you can get, (apart from Moles in Bath, which doesn’t have a stage), and they were phenomenal! If there’s anyone who I would want to be able to sing like, it would either be Jeff Buckley or Mark Lanegan.
He certainly live a rock’n’roll life without compromising anything!
RIP Mark.
I think the Manics met him on that Oasis tour... They clearly picked the right side.
Countzero; that's a tough day, hope you are OK. School night or not I am having a whisky and listening to with animals. Toasts CZ's partner, Mark and CountZero for seeing the Screaming Trees live. I made a pilgrimage to Seattle in my MID 20's to just visit the place.
I remember dust was one of my favourite albums at uni. Was listening to it only the other day
Clearly not a fan of the younger Gallagher brother😂
Countzero - don't listen to that track I posted will you. It'll hurt.
It's just shit, seems to have been a high attrition rate for musical heroes since Bowie
And the latest premature death from the early nineties Seattle scene. I'm still confused and shocked by Chris Cornell. I had no idea he was sick. I thought he was living a semi retired life in Ireland that was it
Horrible news. He seemed like one of the few to survive... Big fan since the early nineties. Last saw him at the roundhouse a couple of years ago. At least he's got about 3 lifetimes worth of back catalogue.
That shocked me I liked his music but was a massive fan of his book which is harshly remorslessly honest. RIP Mark.
Dust is an underrated classic of the 90’s Seattle scene. Absolutely loved everything Mark did. From his stuff with the Soul Savers through to his solo output and I agree that his memoir was a brutal read. Had some great dark humour in places too. Listening to the Gutter Twins this morning.
What a sad loss. An amazing voice. I saw him in about 2013 on the Gravediggers tour. I was stuck by how shy he seemed, clutching the mic stand and looking down, hands visably shaking. A consomethinge collaborator too.
Will have to put together a Screaming Trees/Mark Lanegan playlist for my next ride, and ride it out..
I discovered him relatively late, with 2012's Blues Funeral, but I managed to see him quite a few times since then. Sadly the last time I saw him he was not at his best and the show ended early in a bit of confusion, but other shows have been great.
Marc Riley gave the news on his R6 programme last night, he was definitely upset by it, having hosted him on his show in the recent past.

I remember collecting my daughter from work last year, sat in the car listening to Mark Lanegan being interviewed by Marc Riley. Really engaging guy. I loved the Screaming Trees and his later output. Was quite upset by this yesterday. RIP Mark...
Still trying to process this myself ... he's been one of my favourite singers for years.
First saw him at The Leadmill with Screaming Trees in '96 (with a young Josh Homme on 2nd Guitar! and he references the gig in his book SBAW - heading out to score heroin afterwards) and I've seen him countless times since in various guises and collaborations, including Isobel Campbell @ Leeds City Varities , Soul Savers, to Mark Lanegan Band in small venues and tents at Leeds & Lattitude etc ... every single gig was amazing.
Was listening to Marc Riley when he tentatively announced Mark Lanegan's death - he was clearly hugely upset by it. I took some solace from the fact that the sad news was broken to me by someone who actually knew him, and was also a big fan.
I've been dipping into my extensive CD collection of his body of work since the news broke on Tuesday. Hit the City with PJ (posted above is definitely one of my favourites)
Met him last at The Leadmill in late 2019 ... he was still an imposing figure ... especially with a mouth full of metal implants!
R.I.P. Dark Mark/Old Scratch ... there's not many from the late 80s/early 90s PNW scene left!
Marc Maron has re-released his interview with Mark from 2017.
