Oh no, not another one - first it was Joe Cocker and Leslie Nielsen, and now he's died as well?

Anyone else wondering what motive the son has for wanting to inherit the title? I can't imagine going through life known as Lord Lucan

The same reason anyone wants a "title". Ego.

their brains work differently to most of us. Probably a combination of some inbreeding along with being brought up looking down on the lower classes likening them to something they stepped in.

A little matter such as bludgeoning the nanny, possibly after doing or trying to do something else to her is not seen as a serious matter to them. (not that i am saying this is what happened in this case, could have been intruders who killed the nanny and kidnapped the guy of course)

Now if they had used the wrong fork during a dinner party then they would be cast out and their title never used again....

Plenty of people have gone through life known as the children of someone who's done worse, I mean, who'd want to be known as the offspring of Tony Blair, a man who orchestrated an illegal war that resulted in the death of a staggering number of people.
It's not so much the title as actual family propert that he's been denied, as I understand it.
There's some evidence to suggest Lucan, when faced with what he'd done, and the lack of any real options, was given a gun and he shot himself, and was then fed to a tiger owned by a friend who owned a zoo, and who was a pretty colourful character himself.
As were most of 'Lucky' Lucan's circle of friends.

Two issues with this thread. He's probably still alive and RIH seems more appropriate.

He's in Goa. I've been to the place he is/was/isn't/wasn't staying. Just last year as well.

Well if the son inherits the title, then at least we'll get to say RIP Lord Lucan again.

Do you reckon they will get many applicants for a new nanny position?

You probably can't imagine going through life as his son, when most people he comes into contact with knows his history, as I did when I met him. He is a friend of a friend and I imagine he is just looking to move on and good luck to him.

That Lady Lucan site is one of the best things I've read in while.
Of her own children:

Academic success without the development of a good character is sterile.

Genius!

The sins of the parents should not be put on the children, they are not responsible for the actions of adults. Good luck to him

It's not just a title, he gets a seat in the House of Lords now doesn't he?

That's £300 a day attendance allowance. Plus he gets to make laws for us proles, just for being the son of a murderer.

Not just that, but he gets a license to hunt people on Job seekers Allowance with a crossbow for 6 months of the year.

Well £300 per day for turning up for lunch at the House of Lords would be a nice fringe benefit

'Who will speak for England?'

Seems the ideal candidate.

He isn't be entitled a seat, the hereditary peers needs to be elected.

'Who will speak for England?'

It is an Irish Peerage.
