Just learn that Geoff Apps has died suddenly.

Not from California but undoubtedly a huge part of off-road cycling.

Ride free Geoff.

Sad news. For anyone outside the UK (or just full of youth) this is worth a watch:

Sad to hear this. A great pioneer

Googling suggests this happened in July. But I’m not seeing anything really definitive

I read only today before I created this thread, that Geoff died on 25 July.

Ah crap ☹️

He was a lovely guy - hilariously opinionated, always up for a random off-piste ride, and a great guy to chat about bikes with.

Rip Geoff

I enjoyed that video. Very much reminded me of my early days on hill paths around Ayrshire and Galloway on a vindec vogue . There was a lot of pushing!

RIP . Geoff Apps

Edit may not have been a vogue mine had drop bars

Sad news. I was fascinated by his bikes when I first started reading about ATBs in the mid-late 80s and felt it was a real privilege to follow him around Wendover woods, my local patch at the time, him showing us new places to ride and new ways to ride them. Such an interesting take on bikes too. Ride on Geoff.

Oh no.

RIP Geoff.

Went to his house with about 20 others for a cup of tea. He had a spectacular HiFi setup for playing steam locomotive recordings at high volume.

FYI: For anyone who might like to attend, Geoff’s funeral is being held at the Borders Crematorium (near Melrose – post code: TD6 9HA) on Wednesday, September 4th at 10:00 am.  The plan is for tea and coffee after the service, probably back at the village hall in Chirnside where Geoff lived.
