I'm surprised there's not a thread about this (I missed it if there was).

Passed of "natural causes" a few days ago, aged 90.

His life was well covered on  radio Scotland the other day, didn't know he made music as well as act

I forgot he was in the Great Escape even though I've seen it so many times although as a youngster growing up everyone wanted to be like Steve McQueen

I liked him in the WW2 classic film Mosquito Squadron, the director wanted him to have a period haircut, but he was still filmimg The man from UNCLE so insisted on keeping his 60's mop top hairdo.

His dad was a orchestral violinist and I think he gave arrangement advice to/trained John Paul Jones.

I thought he’d disappeared years ago

Unless you were a regular viewer of NCIS, you wouldn’t have seen him, but I followed the series for years, and it was a great delight when he popped up, and at that time, he hadn’t been on tv for ages. He was a great character, and I loved the fact that there was a model of the Mallard locomotive on a shelf; I often wondered what American viewers would think of it.

He was good in ‘Sapphire and Steel’, too, which was weirdness personified.

RIP, David.

I recall that there was a throw-away line in one NCIS episode where Ducky commented that in his youth he was occasionally told that he looked like Ilya Kuryakin.  Cue blank looks from the younger characters...

I remember that moment well. Thought it was hilarious.
