Wood

The irony, the pain.

Without Wood's death we would not have had Temple of the Dog, without Temple we would not have had Pearl Jam.

Cobain, Staley, Weiland, Wood, Cornell etc

Saldy that's only the singers from the PNW scene of the late '80s early '90s

Then there's Pfaff, Starr, Saunders and many others ... 🙁

RIP Chris Cornell.

Wood

I was fortunate enough to see Shawn Smith at the NCEM in York a few years ago. He did a wonderful cover of 'Crown of Thorns' as a tribute to Andy Wood ... talk about lump in the throat!!

I'm genuinely upset by this. One of the greatest singers of all time in my eyes. Soundgarden were a phenomenally talented band too. Have good entire back catalogue on random. A genuine loss for rock music.

Really enjoyed his last album and song book highlighted his stunning voice and lyrics.

He's not denying his death on twitter - would have thought he would if it weren't true. I think the hoax site might be a hoax.

Edit - that article is dated yesterday, looks like he died overnight last night, shocking timing!

Today?
Comes up as 17th to me?

And from the websites 'about us'

The Mediamass Project : Media criticism through satire

inShare
3
Mediamass : When reality meets fiction
The name “Mediamass”
The project's name is an ironic reversal of portmanteau “mass-media” (media for the masses) in “media-mass” which here means “media en masse” as mass production and therefore mass consumption are the object of our criticism.

The website “mediamass.net”
The website mediamass.net is the medium of our satire to expose with humour, exaggeration and ridicule the contemporary mass production and mass consumption that we observe

Also it will not only mock the producers (mainstream media, journalists) as it is common when questioning and criticizing mass media, but also the consumers as one cannot exist without the other. Sensationalism, lack of verification of information, ethics and standards issues are only symptoms of the actual social and economic order. This is particularly obvious when observing the role of social networking sites in spreading rumours.

Our ‘People’ section
Our website is very new (launched back at the end of October 2012) and still under construction. The ‘People’ section the only active one.

The concept is to select the most typical, representative and recurrent articles across Gossip magazines and to make them available for all the celebrities in our database.

The ‘People’ section is a humorous parody of Gossip magazines, all stories are obviously not true.

Thus thousands of celebrities, Bill Gates in USA, Zhang Ziyi in China, Ranbir Kapoor in India, etc. all have a dog called “Spinee” recovering from successful surgery.

We won’t change the world, but at least we'll laugh trying.

Our project is still in its early stages. If you have any questions, comments or ideas or want to join the team please feel free to contact us.

- Mediamass (October 2012)

i tend to have Chris Cornell playing at least once a day through one of his bands. This has actually upset me, probably more than any other.

Scott Weiland dying upset me but it was always going to happen, this is just unexpected.

I'd never heard of him but read something in the Guardian this morning where he said him and his mates used to go mountain biking with a 40 once something or other which I took to mean a big bottle of beer in his bottle cage. He realised he had a problem when he stopped doing the biking and just had the bottle (and the rest).

same here, I was predominately listening to Maiden, Metallica, Anthrax......Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, all the Seattle music just made more sense than the overblown rock that was kicking about then and all the pyrotechnics. Really noticed when listening to the first album this morning the Led Zeppelin influences.

He will be missed

The mediamass fake thing posted on page one has been updated, so looks like it's true.

As I posted earlier, it's a database, stick any celebrity name in there and any story and it generates a page. It's intended to take the piss out of all those gossip sites that do publish that sort of crap.

http://en.mediamass.net/people/ricky-gervais/deathhoax.html
http://en.mediamass.net/people/bill-gates/deathhoax.html
http://en.mediamass.net/people/joe-cocker/deathhoax.html (appears that when someone actually dies they update the page)

I'm with you Jam. I rarely give a shit about celebrity deaths. But this one is personal, their music, his music helped me through a lot of shit. Dude helped me in ways I'd struggle to express, and I doubt I'm alone in that.

I'm with both of you. Rarely bat an eyelid, but his lyrics and the bands music helped me through some bad times in my teens and twenties. His last album had a few tracks that really resonate too. A talented man and I for one lament the fact I won't get to see him play again.

I was listening to Keaveny while driving up the M5 this morning, and I heard him say something about shocking news that would be on the news coming up, I had only had the radio on for a short while, and I thought, for Chris'sakes, what now!
Then they gave out the news about Chris! Just stunned, what a loss to music, he had an incredible voice, and could interpret other people's songs in a unique way.
Only ever saw Soundgarden twice, and never saw Audioslave, sadly, but he was a phenomenal frontman.
He'll be missed terribly, but he's left a musical legacy that will inspire many new singers in the future.
My thoughts are with his family and their loss.

What a waste of one of the finest voices in Rock.

Gutted to see it was suicide, watching youtube clips from the final Soundgarden show the same night he died and he is on blinding form as ever, genuinely has upset me this one. Thoughts with his wife and children, the world is a poorer place now

Is this going to be another Robin Williams situation? I'm kinda struggling with it at the moment. I can't imagine what his family and friends are feeling right now.

Anyway, here's a song:

Spent a while dancing round the living room playing air guitar to soundgarden played quite loud last night, for the first time in a couple of decades. The wife was slightly bemused I think, but my daughter got it and had a little swing-of-hair with me.

Then I found that cover of Nothing Compares 2 U that the funkmaster dropped back on page 1, had a sit down to that one.

Gone too soon.

Makes you think about what matters really doesn't it?

Men, me included, are good at hiding how they feel and he seemed such a lovely, funny, genuine man with immense talent, but he hid some clearly dark thoughts. His lyrics are quite revealing at times now we hear them again.

In my opinion, Chris Cornell stands up as one of the best vocalists, in any genre. I love his music, even that awful Crossover album with Timberland reeks of class with his vocals.

Loved his music, feel really sad and sorry that he got to that stage.

Hope his family get lots of love and support.

RIP.
