I'd been thinking about one of these for a while now, and following a good review from a colleague, I bought the basic Ring 2 as more of a deterant as our doors are on the side of the house and not visible from the road.
I'm indecisive about the location as we have a porch with 2 glass doors. So it could either go next to/on the front door inside the porch, or next to the porch doors outside.
Outside would capture more but since our doors are on the side of the house and quite wide it would need to be angled slightly to see someone standing there. And could be stolen.
Inside the porch would be more secure as we lock the porch doors while out and overnight. Obviously this means no one can ring the bell while we are out, but will still be recorded through the glass doors.
What do other do? Inside the porch, or outside?
Where is your current doorbell attached? If you want to use it as a doorbell then just put it where your current doorbell is (assuming you have one). If you just want it for its camera then why not just buy a Ring camera? They still give you notifications if they detect movement or sound so give you the same security protection.
I've used my Nest doorbell a couple of times now to speak to someone calling at the door and so far its been fine. If the doorbell was inside a porch would someone open the porch door to press the doorbell button?
There are various types of wedge and corner kits if you need to angle the camera. Our one has screws holding it into the holder so its not just a case of lifting it off and away, but like naything if they really wanted to steal it they could. On the plus side you wil have a video of them doing it i guess. Personally i'd put it outside.

The ring camera is more expensive than the ring 2 doorbell so went for the doorbell and currently don't have anything.
I've got one and whilst not impossible they are difficult to steal, being screwed in with a torx or similar screw (you get the screwdriver with it) and you'll get the thief on film. Additionally I think Ring offer to replace any stolen doorbells.
The only downside is the subscription and the hassle in downloading images. If you don't need the doorbell element then the Blink camera is a better alternative.
