Just strolled through the supermarket this morning, and walked past the kiosk selling the papers. What immediately struck me was how it was all, I mean all, either Corbyn bashing or Brexit scare mongering, or both. Where's the balance these days? The mainstream tv news feels the same. Maybe I'm a bit late to this, but it feels all a tad dangerous.
I think the Mirror sees itself as left wing, but frankly left wing and red-top has never been a thing. The Sun and the Mail are both obviously populist right. The Express is just bonkers right. The former broadsheets are all right except for the Guardian, which is decreasingly present in the supermarkets.
As for mainstream TV, the BBC is desperately trying to hang on to its position as neutral while under attack from the Mail, so has taken a right-ish stance to appease them, all to zero avail of course.
The world does seem to be taking a lurch to the right, worse than in the 80s. The recent acclaim for McCain, as if he was some sort of champion of the left shows how far things have gone. Thugs on the streets in Germany beating up immigrants has a familiar ring to it.
The Guardian has moved to the right and is very anti-Corbyn. It's editorial policy seems to have shifted from concern over social inequality to identity and online issues . I find it often indistinguishable from other 'Fleet St' dailies.

What, the Mail? The Telegraph? Apart maybe from the FT I'd say there was no confusion. Supporting Corbyn isn't how I'd define "left".
I read the Guardian everyday and wouldn't describe it as 'very anti-Corby'. Its a bit more 'pleasesortyourshitoutitsanopengoalwaitingforyou' type. The Guardian is pro-Europe which does put it at odds with Corbyn (possibly).

The papers have always been like that. They were just as bad if not worse in the 80's when I first took notice of them as a teenager. They can say what they want but unfortunately a lot of people see them as trusted sources rather than just making up biased nonsense

Very much this, my main problem with Corbyn and his groupies is that, for a bunch of people who have apparently dedicated their lives to fighting Toryism, they seem to utterly suck at it.
For all his many sins, Blair would have long since marched them into number 10 by now.
Acute exasperation with this seems to be the main driver of much of their output.
There are more than two opinions, left or right.
FT is obviously city centric, they're very 'trickle down economy' but they're also pro immigration and pro-eu as it's 'good for business'.
Telegraph and Times are Centric Tory supporters by and large. They're often Pro-EU, Pro-Tory Central Office, they're not 'nasty' like the Mail and Express, but they hate poor people for being poor (they must be lazy).
The Guardian is for socially conscious, learned wealthy types, who like to feel sorry for poor people (they must be thick).
The Mail and Express are comics for cynical old curtain twitchers scared of their own shadow. They blow with the wind and confirm the prejudices of their readership.
The Sun is for thickos who like tits, football and fink fings were betterer when you could maim yourself in work.
The Mirror is the same for people who would rather not die in work to make the bosses richer.
It might seem that the UK is full of nutters, until you realise how few people actually buy newspapers these days and how people under 30 almost never do.
As for Anti-Corbyn press, well he's not well liked, Labour are doing 'okay' in the polls at the moment, but given the state of the Tory's they should be streets ahead and he polls lower than even May generally. Very few large groups of readers like him.
Don't get me wrong, his 'anti-Semitism' is, as far as I can tell, anti-Israel, a stance I share myself, but because of the way he controls Labour his enemies both within his party and out are going to use it against him.
Where’s the balance these days?
There has never been one, titles with right wing editorial policies have always greatly outnumbered the rest. 7 of the 10 biggest selling titles iirc
it is a bit of a paradox - we’re a fundamentally socialist country (with, you know, a welfare state, schools and hospitals and all that) regardless of who wins or loses at the polls, but we have an appetite for right wing news. It’s not even the case that’s the readers of those papers vote in sympathy with those paper’s headlines. Certainly the last time I looked half of the Mail’s readership were labour / libdem voters.
but even when we have a left wing government in power the public agenda is continually set by the right wing media
Forget the press, the fact that MPs (when back from hols) are/will be focussing on the same is bad news for NHS, schools, benefit system, infrastructure etc, etc.
If you want a more rosy picture, remember the vast majority of people actually get their news from the Web (BBC news is very popular) and TV, BBC NEWS, ITV, C4 and Sky News are very impartial.
There is lots of fiction online of course but it's only a tiny miniorty that think Infowars is 'real' I'd say that one of the most biased 'news' sites is Buzzfeed, it bends stories with half-truths and opinion masquerading as fact and hides it all in a sea of click bait and nonsense.
Look at who owns whatever media outlet you refer to and there is your answer.

Best just keep walking past. They are all garbage. Yesterday's news with someone's spin put on it.
BBC NEWS, ITV, C4 and Sky News are very impartial.
Not sure as I'd include the BBC in that list currently, sadly. C4 News seems to be about the best in terms of impartiality, not that I watch news on TV much.
the balance in the express usually consists of "Blimey! look at the knockers on the bikini clad 13 year old daughter of some z lister" follow by "bloody pedo's lock 'em up"
Pretty much been like it since I started work in the late 1970's....and when you look back further, newspapers like the DM supported Hitler in the 1930's. It's a sad state of affairs really - oh, if only their high moral stance was matched by their willingness to pay their fair share of tax. The following may explain why so many newspaper owners support the Tories and Brexit.

Have you seen the Telegraph recently? It's gone full on rabid right wing lunacy, it's not that far off the Daily Mail but with a posher typeface for their headlines and fewer pictures.

It it surprised me when boris made his letterbox comments that he took the flack (and the plaudits I guess I’d thats how you like things) but not the paper the pays him and published them
plus in Scotland you have the press creaming themselves at what must feel like a penalty shoot-out with only one team -- win / win for them. Plenty of unionists funding Salmond's crowdfunding I expect 😉
