This little fella is (very probably, pending final checks) soon coming to live with me and MrsIHN:

The current name he has is Alfie, but he's a rescue and that is the name the rescue place have given him. We can, therefore, change it, and to be honest I'm not that mad on it.
Our previous dog was called Nelson and, in keeping with the theme of famous military leaders who gave pesky Johnny Foreigner a poke in the eye, I've suggested Wellington. Or, to keep the seafaring theme, Shackleton
MrsIHN, however, is not so keen on either of those. She has suggested Thomas (Hardy, geddit?)
So, dear friends of the Forum, fire away with your best ideas.
Gary.
He can't be Gary, he's not got balls.
Fred.
Bob
(Alfie -> Alfie Roberts -> Bob)
I like the postcard you made of him anyway. Well done IHN 😀
Bernard
Bernie for short
Famous leader?
poke in the eye for Johnny Foreigner?
Theresa?
Tommy
theme of famous military leaders
Monty is a nice doggie name
For, perchy, not from
To add a bit of intrigue, he looks pretty much exactly like Nelson did, except Nelson was jet black.
Gareth.
Boris would seem like a good choice ...
Or maybe Jeremy
Winston
napoleon
Mikhail, as in the Russian bloke
If I had a dog I would call it N'boogie - so if it jumped up and folk I could shout - get down N'boogie!
Also, he's Spanish, as was Nelson (the dog, not the sailorman)
Horatio (Nelson) Or Jeff?
Or if you spend time on the beach - Shark - that'll certainly spice things up when you call him lol
Javier
Also, he’s Spanish,
Cid
Jesus.
Hiller or Whitmore as they really stuck it to Johnny Foreigner 😁
in keeping with the theme of famous military leaders
Alan or even Brooke. My grandad always said Field Marshall Alan Brooke was one of the most underrated officers during WW2.
My real reason for the suggestion is the little fella looks like an Alan to me. Mind you, is it safe to shout Alan in public these days without it being randomly repeated back at you?
Walter, as in Raleigh, he poked a few eyes in his time.
Then there's the bonus of him having invented the bicycle... 🙂
EDIT:
Putin' another one in - Vlad would be good too, but that's more impaling than poking.
Jelly ... short for Jellicoe .... as in Admiral Jellicoe.
Harry ... as in Henry V
Eddie ... as in Edward III
Art ... as in Arthur Willesley
Martin ...as in Johnson
Edit.... Hold on ... seafaring you say .... Steve .... as in Redgrave
These are good, keep 'em coming.
Those so far being taken forward to the next stage:
- Cid
- Walter
- Raleigh
- Harry
Drake as in Sir Francis, but then you can pretend to be down wit da kidz and named him after a rapper.
His name is quite clearly Cortez.
Spanish you say?
Alonso Pérez de Guzmán y de Zúñiga-Sotomayor, 7th Duke of Medina Sidonia
Dave. Just because.
If not Dave, perhaps...
Inigo Montoya...?
Juan Sanchez Villalobos Ramirez.
Strictly speaking, an Egyptian.
Alonso Pérez de Guzmán y de Zúñiga-Sotomayor, 7th Duke of Medina Sidonia
or Dave for short?
Genghis
Harold (he got a poke in the eye FROM Johnny Foreigner)
Genghis
Don't be daft, the chicken is going to be called Genghis.
Name him after Alfred the Great. Famous military person. Beat up lots of Vikings.
You could always shorten it...
Don(Quixote)
Fangio
Pedro
We went through this when we rescued a dog who was Bella at the time. Not our favourite name, but we decided to stick with Bella as it was/is her name and it's a reminder that we accept her unconditionally.
Bawbag.
Excellent for when you lose him. "Has anyone seen my b....."
Doug.
Woodbine
When your dog is old and knackered, you can take him out for a drag
Fenton.
Looks like a Carlos to me...

Maurice or Morris (real name of the fella who played Alfie)
In the STW tradition of recommending what you have.....how about Bert (Albert)?
Adolf.
Raffles
or Frank
Cortez (as a rescue he'll have been done).
All good stuff chaps.
I'm liking Maurice 🙂
Harper? (Thinking of Harper from Sharpe - right sort of era)
Or, "Bastard".
Italian you say?
Amerigo Vespucci?
Similarity in skin tone .... the pic was taken recently to celebrate the new iPhone's capability of filter enhancements 🤪

Italian you say?
Nope, Spanish
Deefer
To save confusing him, why not just call him, I dunno Alfie.
Call him what? And stop calling me Alfie.
Franco, maybe not
Hannibal.
Or, if you're not on the side of the Carthaginians, Scipio.
Both spent plenty of time in Spain.
Stanley. My missus says it’s Stanley, so Stanley yeh?
Schmelson
Have you decided what you're going to call Walter yet?
