Just had a 15 tog 100% goose down duvet delivered today. This, combined with the fact the wife put the heating on for the first time tonight means I'm ****ing overheating.

Duvet is sooo nice though.... 😀

I hope you haven't fallen foul of the widely known (by me) fact that down togs are worth about 2 synthetic ones.
I use 7tog in the highlands and never heat the room.

Snap!
I got a new one delivered on Monday, tried it this morning after the night shift and it was lovely! Got it from the duvet store, half price offer just now, seemed a reasonable deal.

15 tog????

I'm with Sweepy. My default is 4.5 tog, duvet liner and cover; that's for the mediterranean climate in Leeds.

If it gets cold I might move up to 7tog; I have 10.5 & 13 but don't know why - never use them. Might advertise here - miles off topic.............

Depends what part of the country you live, we tend to be around 10° cooler than the south!

4.5 and the windows open to get some air through at the moment in Yorkshire.

Just about cool enough to sleep.

Hearings been kicking in as temps drop below 22C in my house, as I type it's come on...
Windows always open in the bedroom, lets the stink out.

Deepest South Coast, I can see the Isle of Wight from here 😛

Come on play the game.

Also something about a bird in the duvet is worth two in the bush?

why?

never understood this, OK there's a difference between heating on full to 30 degs and ice inside the windows, but what's so bad about putting the heating on? some people seems weirdly proud of the fact that they've somehow defied the modern affliction, of being...(oh the horror!) comfortable?

when it comes around to November do you have a party? or just invite the boiler man around just in case it doesn't work, because it hasn't been used all year?

Grew up with heating set to 14C - my wife and I have compromised on 18C.

I cannot imagine living in a house heated to 22C - I'd melt.

Thermostat? You were lucky

I have to carry logs in from the wood store when it gets cold.

If it gets really cold I might even light the fire

Fire!? When I were a lad we 'ad to eat the logs, then we'd all gather round a candle for warmth. If it got really cold, we'd light the candle.

22 degrees indoors and I'd be in shorts - as it was last night I was in shorts anyway with no heating on.

7.5 synthetic for winter for me, I'd prefer to leave the Geese with their feathers attached.

My 13 tog goose down duvet hasn't been used for years, the 4.5 is used all year round (with a window always open), although I've yet to see how cold this house gets in winter.

4.5 over Summer, The 13 goes back on tonight. I just love the weight of it too. And heating off.

Davey Down duvets and pillows FTW BTW. Cheap and good and great service

windy South Lanarkshire here, house is a toasty 20 degrees when we waken at 7, heating comes on at 6, off at 830, back on at 230 till 1030. Wife gets in with the kids around 315. Mornings it's set at 20, later at 22.....

Since getting a Hive controller we are using less gas 🙂 Surprisingly, the Hive stats say our house is on average slightly cooler than those in our area.

Added benefit that I can turn it down from work, and switch the lights off too 🙂

No heating yet. Our rule is no heating until we're too cold to be sat downstairs in a jumper and joggers. Right now I'm still in shorts and a t-shirt, albeit I have had to put slippers on for the first time in months.

What other utility don't people use until the last possible moment?

• Don't drink water until you're dying of thirst!
• Shower once a week and only when you reek!
• Don't switch the lights on until all the candles have burnt down!

...I paid ruddy thousands for my central heating - I'm not going to sit in my house dressed like I'm going for a hike up Kinder Scout!

😀
