or more like medium johns ideally
my regular vocation is as a commando, but it gets cold in the winter doesn't it?
have a few regular long johns and they're just annoying. being a hairy wee monkey doesnt help.
so ideally i'd like some knitted cotton or bamboo, LOOSe fitting, down to just below the knee.
nearest i have is some pyjamas, but they are still a little over built compared to kecks.

anyone? anything?

lined trousers i suppose. tho i have some fleec lined which are great when it's REALLY cold, btu a bit much otherwise.

first world over fourty problem...

Shave and then buy any tight fitting ones?

Tights? 😉

I've got some Spider long johns which are stupid expensive and a bit clingy and some excellent Lidl sports underwear which slide nicely under whatever you're wearing and are soon forgotten. If you see them in Lidl, don't hesitate.

For canoeing in damp or PJ's/loitering around camp warmth, my pure merino Montane leggings are ace, also available in 3/4s.
For wandering hills, HH Warm.
On high exertion days Patagonia Capeline light weight, again available in boot top length.

Have you looked at Brynje

Long Johns

I have the Super Thermo tops and they are very warm. Also have the benefit that they dry quicker than any other base layer I have ever worn.

I suggest you never let anyone see you in them though... 🙂

thanks all,
a lot of those are pretty much just tight fitting long johns tho, even if they are probably better than the ones i have...

don't see the montanes in 3/4 length anymore

They will be tight fit, to fit under trousers and be more efficient at wicking and warmth.
What about insulated trousers?

I've some Montane Terra Winter troos, lined with very thin fleece and zips down the side.

I think Rohan do smart chinos with lining for warmth, if not plenty of 'country' stores will sell either cord or moleskin lined trousers for the country gent.

thankfully i'm not a country gent!
yes i'm gonna pick up some decathlon tough soft shell type things which'll do the job; fluffy on the inside.
i don't need tight fit to fit under trousers. not like i wear skinny jeans.
maybe i should try sizing up
