Riding/running trousers - niche requirements

I'm not sure why this is such a niche set of requirements, but I'm looking for some trousers to replace my Alpkit Floes and I can't find anything similar.

The correct answer is just to buy some more, but at £80 they're pretty steep and I don't really feel like they justify the price. I'm sure there must be something similar.

Basically, I want a some lightweight windproof trousers that taper to a slim fit at the ankle.

Walking trousers generally too baggy.

MTB trousers generally aim for some sort of water resistance at the expense of breathability (the Floe's claim to be water-resistant but that's a lie).

Don't want leggings.

Pockets, vents, ankle zips (the Floe's biggest flaw as riding wear is you have to take them off to get pads on) all desirable.

If you have something you like then spend the £80. Nothing worse than spending £50 and wishing you had gone a bit more....

Came here to suggest 7mesh as I would say of all my riding trousers they would be the most ok for running. But they are more £ than 80!

Have both the Enduras above well two pairs. Great comfort. More suited to nice Spring days and Mild Autumn.

Also just picked up these from Decathlon very similar but equally nice fit.

Keela Roadrunners. I have 3 pairs and much prefer them to my Floes.

Rummage on ebay and you can buy ex-police stock for less than £30.

I’ve got 2 pairs of the Troy Lee Skyline, 1 standard & 1 ‘Chill’ which have a thermal lining. Love them, great slim fit, narrow round the ankle. Bit more than your budget if you can find them on sale but I really rate them.

I also have the skyline which are really comfy but better suited to drier conditions.

For winter walks I use thermals under the endura.

Keela Roadrunners/Scuffers have zipped ankles and velcro to "taper" them. They'd pretty much fit all of your requirements.

Thanks for your replies.

I know this to be the sensible answer.

I actually have a pair of Keela Roadrunners. They're a bit slimmer than my Endura trousers, but still slightly baggier than ideal on my skinny legs for running purposes. The velcro on the ankle works well enough but it leaves a baggy bit above it that's annoying.

I would also reccomend 7 Mesh ,but over £80 .

I use them for running, commuting, gravel/mtb  and even walking if packing light on a trip away.

Sizing is bit weird ...its nice being able to say I am in a medium!

They dry quite quick , dwr helps repel a bit of rain as well.

I have some walking trousers from dhb can't remember what they're called right now. They're tapered at the ankles so don't snag on cogs, loose enough at the knee to fit pads. Have a couple of useful largish pockets on the thighs which zip closed.  They're light and fairly tough not at all waterproof but very quick to dry and cost sub £30 four years ago when I got them . I'd buy them again

These or a maybe a forerunner? https://www.evanscycles.com/brand/dhb/trail-mens-trousers-333268

DHB often fills that budget-but-quality gap... Shame they're only available via Mike Ashley's empire 🙁

Mosttb trousers I've tried recently have been a thin softshell type material rather than anything waterproof.
Look for anything 4 way stretch and you should get what you want.
Most recent ones are Ion ones from Stif for £35.

Gymshark arrival woven joggers ftw. Pick em up for £20 ish in the sales. I have several pairs. Large for general knocking about in, and some M’s which I use for running. Lovely material and great fit. Very lightweight and breathable. I don’t use em in the bike tho but only coz I’ve got loads of other kecks for that.

£80 for a decent pair of trousers that you'll use a lot seems "reasonable" these days, but Alpkit have a Sale on regularly enough.

I think we might have a winner. They look pretty close to ideal. "woven joggers" was the search term I was looking for. Who knew.
