You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm planning a Trans Valleys adventure riding from Cwmcarn to BPW over a couple of days, via Ebbw Vale. There was an MBR article about 10 years ago where they rode from Cwmcarn to Afan and they raved about a descent from Coity Mountain down into Abertillery, but I can't seem to find it on Strava. Does anyone know the route I'm thinking of, or know of any good descents around those parts? thanks all
I think, (and this is from hearing it from someone else, cos I've never seen the MBR thing)
that the track you want is the rocky descent that comes off the Coity towards Cwmtillery reservoir. If I knew how to mark Google maps, I'd show you, but basically, if you put Google maps into satellite mode, find the reservoir, and its the track to the right taking you up to the pipeline road. It starts at the barn type building with the rusty red roof.
Its a rocky old descent from what I remember, and I'm not sure if I'd drop all the way into Abertillery, cos there isn't a lot of options to get to Ebbw Vale from there, that dont involve tarmac. You could drop all the way down to Abertillery Park and pick up the cycle track by the river, thats ok but still tarmac. If you wanted to stay offroad, I'd do the rocky descent as far as the rusty barn, then turn right and make your way back up onto the pipeline, follow it all the way up to Nantyglo/Brymnawr, drop down somewhere up there, make your way upto West Mon Golf Club, and drop down to Ebbw Vale that way.
that's great, thanks houndlegs - really appreciate that.
