Yesterday I acquired some Rudy project sunnies at the local car boot with a copper lens and I am truly impressed at the lack of distortion and superb clarity they give.I've never tried expensive eyewear before having always used ultra cheap yellow safety glasses which are ok but now I realize what I've been missing. The Rudys are actually not cycle specific and after a long fast downhill stretch on the bike I realized I need a little larger lens for better wind protection as my eyes are very sensitive these days. So in order to save some money I thought about either buying some more second hand Oakley's or RP's off eBay or perhaps research whether there are alternatives about which offer similar quality but without the premium added on for the name . If anyone can suggest alternatives it would be much appreciated but as mentioned previously they need to have great optics as well as scratch resistance and half decent build quality. Perhaps I'm after the moon on a stick ?
Cheers
Bill

I wear Oakley with an almost religious, cult like fanaticism.

I have, however, recently bought some Tifosi as 'disposable' spares to use as eye protection in the garden, and for sailing. Basically, they were cheap, so I don't care if they're damaged or lost at sea.

They're very, very good. For the money, they're impeccable.

Lots of fakes on eBay. Be very careful what you buy.

Any of the De Walt safety specs (link)
You'll need to try them out if they're for road use because IME the top of the frame can obscure vision if you're low on the bars, but should be fine for MTB
I've got a pair that I use on the road that I think are the Reinforcer

Tifosi are great value.

I've not tried them but Bolle safety specs look really good from about £10. They're an eyewear glasses manufacturer so should be decent.

My go to are Oakley, but do have a pair of Salice 011 I bought after trying them at the Cycle Show years back. Different lenses available and provide a lot of coverage.

I got some BBB photochromic with a small +2.0 section at the bottom for reading recently. Very impressed. Comfy, good optics and the photochromic thing works really well. They maybe don't look as 'cool' as some Oakleys, though. I have some Oakleys too, but I wear the BBBs all the time now.

I'm very much enjoying Julbo reactive glasses

you can get them a lot cheaper - like here

I’ll stick a vote in for Julbo as well - I’ve got a few pairs (also a pair of the zebra photochromic lens ski goggles) and find them excellent - they resist misting up, the photochromic lenses are excellent, great fit, good price. They are also pretty robust, don’t need babied to stay in good nick.

On a total aside, I bought some Bolle safety glasses and was amazed how crap the lens was, did wonder if I'd be sold some crap knock off as the optics were terrible.

some great suggestions ..thanks..
I too have tried some bolle safety glasses as well as many others and although reasonable they are nothing special and optically very much run of the mill .After trying the Rudy P's I now know that as they are crystal clear with zero distortion and SO much better than anything I've used before .(.they have however all been cheap ) Actually ..I bought some bolle spiders a while back and was very disappointed tbh.

Keep your eye open when you are in TK Maxx too. I scored a pair of Bolle B-Rock glasses as worn by Adam Yates in the 2016 TDF for £20!

+1 for TK Maxx. Keep an eye out for anything by Smith Optics in particular. Some of the best lenses I’ve ever worn.

Often get some very decent Nike ones as well at less than £20.

Having used many top brands over the years I am currently using (and can thoroughly recommend) Smith Optics. I’m using the attack max version with chromapop lenses and they are mega!

I got the frames off ebay - £10 and got the lens online from www.reglaze-glasses-direct.com/ for £22.

They work and I'm happy with them.
