Hi - thinking of heading to Talgarth for a bit of riding later in the year, Nov/dec time. What are the trails like around then, muddy or firm?

Obviously depends on the weather but as a rule what are they like?

Brecon Beacons in general are rocky and firm, but when very wet or raining the high sand content and low loam content create an incredibly effective griding paste so it can be hard on kit. But only when very wet. There are also some really claggy muddy trails but you'll probably avoid them if you stick to the big ones.

Overall though it's a good bet in winter, quite rideable.

Ride all year, regular Wednesday night ride from Talgarth. If dry or wet it's ace, just different! Some great loops around Mynydd Llangors as well as on the Black Mountains themselves.

I am looking to do the Black route myself out of Talgarth in August, is the loop waymarked both ways around or is it a map and GPS jobby ?
