i have a suspicion that we may have seen our last one - anyone got any inside news ? i would dearly like to ride it in 2026 as it was the only closed road 100 mile race that was easy ( possible) to get to
I don’t know if it’s on, but having done it a couple of years ago and ticked it off, I wouldn’t rush to do it again.
Probably the worst sportive I’ve done. Poor route, poor food, poor riding.
The last one wasn’t down to any individual rider, it’s just that with the roads as busy as they were (there’s a huge number of riders), folk chainganging trying to hit circa 4 hours while other folk are pootling along on Boris bikes and Dutch shoppers was not great.
They did have great medical support to be fair, but unfortunately they needed it.
I’ve ridden open road sportives where I felt there was less traffic.
Get the train from London KingsX and do a Velo29 open road one out of Thirsk or Northallerton.
I will agree with you that there were some people in pelotons who absolutely should not have been riding the way that they were and I'm not surprised I saw some of the crashes that we did.
I would just like to ride it as I didn't do the 160 kilometer run I needed the 50 because I was with somebody else and we were on a mountain bikes.
Despite all of the problems I would still just love to do that long ride again on a closed road. I don't really care about the food I'll just bring everything I need to eat myself, but it would be good just to be able to do it one last time and do the proper distance. I have a feeling however it's not coming back....
No inside news, but it sounded like a combination of difficulty selling all the tickets, difficulty organising road closures, and difficulty securing a sponsor. Unless those improve, not sure it'll be coming back.
I'm glad I got to do it, but I agree that the route was probably a reason for the waning interest. Some pretty towns but otherwise it was the most featureless 100 mile loop from London you could have made.
