what a bloody fantastic musician he is 😀
just watched this on fretboard forum.
would give my left nut* to be able to play guitar anything close to him.
*metaphorically speaking 😉
one of the all time origonals and a great live performer. He has just released an album of acoustic covers of some of his old songs, well worth a listen.
One of the very best singers, songwriters, guitarists.
A most talented chap - looking forward to seeing him at Moseley Folk this year!
Big fan, me. Since his Fairport days, really. He has to be one of the greatest singer/songwriter/guitarists ever. I think he refused to play the corporate game during his Sufi days and that's got a lot to do with his lack of 'fame'. Also, some of his lyrics are a bit too much for some people.
If you want to hear the 'dark' side of RT, listen to the two French, Frith, Kaiser & Thompson albums.
Heard him doing an acoustic version of Bright Lights Tonight on the radio the other evening. I was wondering who the other 2 guitarists were till I realised it was just him.

whenever I see a musicians name as a thread title I worry.

Me too! I'm seeing him at Towersey.
He played Bath last night, but I was a bit spent out when tickets went on sale, so missed him this time.
Very funny live, as well as a superb musician.
It's worth checking out this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beat-The-Retreat-Richard-Thompson/dp/B000G73Y5U
Really good covers of his songs by some interesting artists, in particular Dimming Of The Day, by the Blind Boys of Alabama, absolutely breathtaking song.
just came across this
😀
A musician I am very glad to have seen live!
