I know there were a few on here that love the Cycling Podcast and coverage of the pro racing, terrible news this morning that he has passed away.

Will be greatly missed, his voice has accompanied my love of cycle racing for years and the racing won't be same without him.

Jeez, I fixed his bike a few times back in the day, he was pally with Bicycleworks.

Can't say I knew him well but seemed a good bloke. Young family I think?

He did have a young child and had only recently moved to France with his wife, only 48 years of age and seemingly fit as a fiddle.

I have been an avid listener so his voice has been constant 1-2 a week for 8 years now, never cared when the latest celebrity dies, but this has hit me in the same way John Peel did, feels like losing a friend really.

Wow, that's awful news. Great writer of both books and magazine features and I listen to the Cycling podcast pretty much every Zwift session.

One of the great things about The Cycling Podcast is that it's done in a way that makes you feel you're out riding with friends. Sad news.

I've really enjoyed his books and listening to the Cycling Podcast. It's really sad to hear of his passing. RIP Richard and best wishes to his family and friends.

Sat here shocked. I agree with @spacey that it feels like losing a friend/someone you know well.

Gutted, The Cycling Podcast is my favourite podcast by far. Really enjoyed recent friends specials on the making of the podcast and the "introducing" series of interviews they did of each other last year.

RIP The Buffalo.

I met Richard some years ago and went for a relaxed ride in Scotland with him. He was a good bike racer but outstanding as a writer and journalist (and very serious about his craft). This is shocking news.

Completely agree scud (and others). Funny you mention John Peel, I remember that hitting me really hard too. Something about the cosy nature of radio and the podcast that makes you feel close to these people. Was explaining it to my wife at lunchtime and just choked up. Orla has posted a lovely piece on instagram, worth seeking out.

This is such terrible news. I don't know that I can add anything to what's already been said but I feel this loss deeply. I'm really going to miss Richard's humour and warmth. I can only imagine how hard this is for his family and friends.

That is terrible news! I am also an avid listener of the Cycling Podcast. He seemed such a nice and down to earth chap. 🙁

I'm genuinely sorry to hear this. His books and 'In search of Robert Millar' in particular were well researched and written with a nous which was appreciated by the reader.

The parallels drawn between the effect of his passing however, and the death of John Peel are just bizarre.

Peels admitted predilection for very young girls remains a black cloud over any legacy he may have left, indeed why so many folk continue to hold him up as some folk hero makes my skin crawl.

I'd like to think when Moore arrived at the pearly gates he asked "Where are we, Lionel?"

Very sad news. Slaying the Badger is one of the best cycling books I've ever read.

You brought a tear to my eye with this comment, can actually hear him saying those words.

I've been a an avid listener of TCP for years and think i've got all the books he's written. This really does feel like losing a friend. So sad.
