Anyone else go on sat to watch the mighty Vulcan for the last time? Arrived late as stuck in traffic , to the park and veiw at Totterdown Farm.
I have a problem with large crowds of shuffling people who walk with a glazed look on their faces at 1mph not actualy looking where they are going , and wander around like drunk sheep...hence Totterdown
Not as many fast jets this year , but alot of Merlins in the air at the same time , plus the 109 .Dont think I have ever sen as many spits and hurricanes in the air before . Lovely to see.
A400m was a thing to watch . Apache disply looked good too , But the Red Arrows and Vulcan ( Take off looked lairy from where we were , far too much rudder at low airspeed , then throttle back and have to stuff the nose down and level the wings to gain airspeed ) was very close to overhead alot of the display.
Rather emotional to see it with the Red Arrows , and the Spit and Typhoon display was awesome , great soundtrack and nice to see/ hear a Spit getting somewhere near full throttle. Usual traffic issues getting out of Lechlade, but all in all a great day out , despite the sunburn and dehydration

Wow, a qualified pilot on STW!
You didn't see any 1970's or 80's displays did you?
'ladies & gentlemen if you look to your right you'll spot the Vikings (2 x F104's) coming in fast & low @ 550 knots'.
Who then appeared from the left at 550kts right over the crowd line.
RAF Leuchars, Sept 1975 ish. Scared the crap out of everyone.
I'd have loved to be there, this was all I saw of the display:

From the Ridgeway above Avebury, maximum zoom on my TZ30.
Hmmm, unfortunately that's only reasonably impressive & alas I don't think any footage exists of the four Vulcan scramble from the 1977 Finningley airshow, mindblowing with a capital M.
A shot of a Jag from RAF Church Fenton, late 70's...

The best air shows are long gone!
Dooble post!
Yep, was there.
That take-off was a thrill to see, and a total surprise, my heart skilled a beat, we were right down the bottom end of Totterdown park and view - so saw it much as the below pic demonstrates (not mine). Great day out. And I now have a farmer's tan to beat all 😕

Barrel Roll anyone:
We were there too (yesterday). Currently downloading far too many photos, most of which will no doubt be out of focus or badly framed...
First and only air show I've been too - mostly for the Vulcan, although the 75th BoB stuff was a brilliant bonus. SOOO many Spits & Hurris and I loved the Typhoon/Spit show.
Fast jet pilot has got to be THE best job in the world. Wheels up, stick back, burners on, f.off into the heavens. Can't see that ever getting old.
Oh, yes and a wee bit of sunburn!
Update with a couple of pics

whatever .
Turns out the take off was abit too near the limit and the pilots got told not to do it again on Sunday. Apparently the wing was approx 60ft above the trees .
Malvern Rider. i was at the top of the hill at Totterdown. The doorman in the Chinook was waving back as I was waving at him as it circled at the end of its display.
No , Im not a qualified pilot but have flown Gliders , Cessna's and a Piper Comanche thanks.
Cracking day out, will be camping there next year I think.
