Lord Hardie was not available to answer questions from the media about why the inquiry had taken so long and its overall cost, which at more than £13m is more than the Chilcot Inquiry into the Iraq War.

Is the summary something like. We hired a German contractor for the main part of the work but made an arse of the lead up so they sat doing nothing but still, not surprisingly, had to pay plant and workers costs. Which was passed onto CEC.

What are the costs in the enquiry? At £2k a day for an average consultant cost (some junior, some senior) with better deals for longer commitments, that’s around 6,000 days of effort leaving £1m for fancy stationery. Were they all staying at The Balmoral?

The undercover police inquiry is currently over £68m and several years later, so 13m isn’t too bad!

Well it's 140k for me, 140k for you, and 5 for the bridge.

These inquiries never achieve anything useful.
