I bought a Samsung external HD from Amazon which worked fine & I've backed up my laptop to it.
However my laptop now won't recognise it when I connect it, I've tried it in other computers with the same problem.

After contacting Amazon they have now refunded me but want the HD returning, but I'm not too keen sending it off containing a copy of all my personal data.

Any ideas how I can erase it?

Cheers

Parted Magic would do it.

dban works well for us at work. That'll ensure other people don;t get to see all the porn you've put on there.

If the drive isn't getting picked up on several different computers, it is extremely unlikely a boot disk will pick it up either.

You could try taking the disk out and putting it into another caddy, but that would likely void the warranty anyway.

You need to decide if the extremely small chance that they repair the drive, and someone then can be arsed looking at the data, is worth more to you than the cost of the drive.
