Good luck to the Scottish students getting their results today.

You’ll be great whatever the results!

Youngest gets them by post today (he is old skool!) and then is on a plane to Japan tomorrow morning. Either opening champagne on the flight or drowning sorrows...

Good luck to all - and remember, there is more than one way.

I om of the very specific age where you had to go in to school from 9am to collect your results in an envelope in front of everyone; but for uni-goers, you could log in to UCAS before you went (or possibly even at midnight the night before) and see if you got in to your prefered, reserve or no university.

MAaA

Wishing him well, I may have taught him along the way.   Now retired, today takes a bit of getting used to.

I remember opening those envelopes!

Miss OTS got 5 A's in her highers which should make getting an unconditional uni offer for the course and location she wants a bit easier.

Kids getting confirmation of Uni places before getting results. Only by 20mins or so.

Dept results showing that the hard work has paid off, pretty proud of my bunch.

And to counter the naysayers we haven't taken a dip in results since the covid exam débâcle.

Eldest didn't get the grades she needed for Biology at Aberdeen, she was devastated, Doesn't help that she is away by herself in Portugal just now. So 90mins of tearful Facetime and getting warmed up for clearing. She then checked her emails to see a congratulations email from Aberdeen confirming her place! Still not sure how it happened but we think combined UCAS points were high enough, even if actual condition of grades was not met.

Meanwhile, our 15yr old was largely ignored despite smashing it out of the park with exams. She really struggles at school but got 2 A's and 4 C's. Most importantly for her though, one of those C's was in Maths despite getting 21% in her prelim.

Good luck to all - just remember that it's absolutely not all about Uni.

One of mine didn't like it (started in lockdown) and has packed in after year two - she's now working for Emirates in Dubai, having an amazing time  and will be seeing the world whilst being paid handsomely for it.

There are always other options and all is never lost!

(on the flip side my eldest has just graduated with a first and starts work at eBay in September!  Two sides to every coin!)

Good luck to all. Uni is only one option, especially nowadays, but it doesn’t always feel that way at 16/18 years old. Emglandshire GCSEs for us in a couple of weeks

Kids getting confirmation of Uni places before getting results. Only by 20mins or so.

Happened with our eldest 2 years ago, rather burst the bubble getting the exam results already knowing the uni outcome.

No art?! Better get practicing his colouring in while away!

Jokes obviously, let me know if he wants experience.

A very relieved Sandboy Jnr this morning. He’s smashed it with A* in English and two more A’s in Film Studies and Sociology.
He’s secured his place at Warwick Uni to study Sociology.
Considering he took himself out of high school due to the school not able to help him with his Asperger’s. He home schooled his GCSE’s and has now proven lots of people wrong. To say I’m proud of him is a bit of an understatement!

Mini salad_dodger outperformed predicted grades and is off to Cardiff uni next month. Very happy and relieved household.

Word from the "high-perfoming" fee paying school that my eldest used to go to is that results were fairly terrible 😬

We've not heard directly from the SIL about her son (which is ominous in itself) but I've been told by a mate that he didn't get what he wanted or needed!

So glad that we've put this phase well behind us!!!

Not too good for my nephew so he is considering his options. Looking at a BAE apprencticeship. Luckily he did some decent work experience with military helicopters and enjoyed that so fingers crossed.

I can't help but feel that these kids having not had the experience of taking 'proper' exams before (GCSEs) has not helped.

Anyway, def more to life than uni.

Can't get hold of my ****less son on the phone to get any details. Apparently he did get into uni of choice but no idea if he got any As.... fingers crossed he didn't.

Both nieces got what they needed to go to Uni, so am thrilled for them. Both to study Media and Communications. One will join her sister at the same department (Cardiff). I don't think it is quite so much about the grades now, all about the acceptance onto a course. Sadly the science gene is not strong in my lineage it would seem.

We've not got to that side of the fence yet, but our twin girls start GCSEs in September and their grades in their first three years at secondary school have always been very good so we are very excited to see what this next chapter will bring them.

Well done to all you proud parents out there (and your kidoils too obviously) 🙂

PS don't panic if the kids haven't get the grades they wanted, most Uni's are accepting lower entry tariff due to the 're-alignment' of the grades, and understanding they have had a few 'rough years' of variable education.

A family friend's daughter has not got the grades she was expecting. Looks like she won't be off to do medicine in September. I'm sure it'll all work out though.

My daughter "just" got her first choice place at Bristol but with lower grades than expected. She is feeling pretty ripped off with the grade "realignment" and feels ( i think quite rightly given her teachers reaction) that if she had taken the exams in 2019 she would have "the right"grades.

Very mixed emotions but trying to reassure her that now she has her place, the actual grades don't matter!

Oldest travelled back to Wales yesterday from hols so she could be at home for her A level results.

0800 this morning she got her spot at Nottingham Uni and at 0830 got her results, three A*s so is obviously over the moon as well as Mrs Inbred and me.

Interesting times as she is the first one to leave the nest, out into the big world.

Should add that lots of daughters friends have had disappointed mornings, especially on the atrs rather than science side

I can’t help but feel that these kids having not had the experience of taking ‘proper’ exams before (GCSEs) has not helped.

Sandboy Jnr commented on this a while back when he was doing his mock exams.
Being homeschooled for his GCSE’s, he did sit all exams during the pandemic, some in person and others over zoom but under strict conditions. He felt that was at a big advantage over his peers.

He’s secured his place at Warwick Uni

Congratulations! Now to pick halls! My daughter has just finished y1 so if you want any advice on halls, ask and I'll ask her.

She was in Cryfield standard and had a fab year ... But was quite a boisterous flat, not sure from was you said about Asp what he might be looking for. The fact he's motivated enough to home school himself should hopefully mean the academic transition to Uni will be a doddle

Well congrats to JrT too!

Been telling Miss Ceepers that no one cares about your grades once you’ve got onto the course you want anyway & Bristol isn’t an easy place to get into. Think it’s helping!

Our stress was a few months back as my daughter studied for the IB rather than A levels and got results earlier. Shes off to Durham to study Philosophy.

Hopefully everyone gets what they want, if not finds a new pathway.

Eldest got his results this morning - AAA - and he's off to Southampton to do automotive engineering. It'll be perfect for him - he's spent the summer riding his Honda CG125 7000km's around Europe - Le Mans Classic, Hungarian GP, car and bike museums and alpine passes.

Niece's GCSE results in, also very pleased and off to first choice 6FC to do the subjects she likes and does well in.

She also got 5/5 in Science and 5 in Maths, thanks to her Uncle's extra tuition (so I'm telling myself)

number 2 did annoyingly well, the ambitious incentive payment I foolishly agreed to (she came up with it) is going to kill me 😀

@scuttler - I could post an identical post. Binnerette number 2 has also smashed it (thank god she got her mothers brains!) and is presently on her way to Leeds, but for the whole weekend. May the lord have mercy on her soul! 😀

Little miss JP is very happy with two 9's, seven 8's and two 6's in English, she wasn't expecting to do really well in those because the exam hall was stifling hot for two of the exams and she has the celtic fringe genes from me. Chemistry, Maths and History A Levels beckon. She seems most concerned about one of her best friends having good enough scores to continue at the school.

Again don't know where the brains come from, I blame the 'Mum Omega' supplements my wife took during pregnancy.

My eldest and all her friends are off to Leeds for the weekend too! She did really well especially in English where she has always struggled with dyslexia so it was with some relief that she got grades high enough to get into sixth form college which has a fairly high bar if you are not from a feeder school.
