(TLDR version) A long time ago, my father in law rescued a partial linenfold panel from a skip. Anyway, father in law is long gone but I have always thought the panel could be cleaned up and presented nicely...if only I knew how. Suffice to say it has hundreds of years of ingrained dirt accumulated on the surface.

Obviously, I am not going to wade into this without knowing what the best approach is.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I'll wade straight in with: how about contacting the repair shop...?

Cottonwool buds and meths. Little bit at a time.. You'll go through a shed load of buds but those are cheap.

Thanks....meths I have. I'll start on the reverse of the panel and see how it goes.

Pix? I'll see what I can do.

Light soapy water on a cotton bud. Or diluted lemon zest (yup) any meths type liquid can leave residue.
Also low strength IPA can work as it evaporates so fast it cannot do much damage. If it's old it's most probably button polished. Try the back first obvs
