We were given some vouchers for Manchester House for our wedding last year, but it went bust shortly afterwards. I read at the time that they'd be honored at another of the group that owned its restaurants, but hadn't got around to transferring them until now. They've now said we can use them, but not on a Friday or Saturday night (only before 5 pm) and the minimum table size for vouchers >£50 is 4 people - our vouchers are for £200. This seems pretty crap to me, what are our rights if we decide we don't want to use them under these conditions? I'm guessing we could request to be listed as a creditor to the restaurant that closed and try to get the money, but I'm sure that would be a pain in the arse.

And you’ll get bugger all.

Legally, I don’t think you have a leg to stand on. I’d find a couple of mates and treat them to a nice meal, during the week if I were you.

I think the full extent of your rights here is the right to moan about it on the internet.

Your rights are somewhere between little and fork all.

You have the same rights as any other unsecured creditor to the bust business, i.e. chuff all. You might get pennies in the pound back. If you're offered anything of value take it. Otherwise, write it off as a lesson in why vouchers should be avoided.

You'll probably need 4 people to hit the £200, unless doing a taster/wine flight menu.

Friday/Saturday nights are often excluded from deals. Are you planning on going twice, say £100 each time, then they are being 'tight'. Just used a £100 voucher for MPW for the two of us.

Which 'alternative' restaurants do you have ?

I'd take their offer.

Enjoy a nice meal (hopefully) mid-week and laugh it off.

Alternatively you can look forward to a string of boilerplate letters from liquidators whilst they explain how £2.50p of assets were discovered and their fees were £150k so you're getting nowt.

Thanks all, that's pretty much what I thought. Might see if we can get some friends and go for a boozy Saturday lunch!

I’d check before doing that ..... vouchers are often food only ....
they count on folks running up a large drinks bill

That’s generally money off vouchers, rather than vouchers you’ve paid for in advance.

It's a bit crap given that it's a voucher that has been paid at full value but given the circumstances better than nothing.

does it have to be used near you or could you tie it up with a long weekend break somewhere?

OP I think you've done fine, they were under no obligation to give you anything.
