Off to Roma for the fiancee's 30th, can anyone recommend somewhere special for a meal? Only condition would be no requirement for being suited and booted, and we're staying in Trastavere so near(ish) to there would be a bonus!

Saw a thread from ~5 years ago that mentioned Checchino so will have a look at that one, but things may have move on in the past years.

Edit - Classic Italian restaurants, obvs 😀

Il Tempio di Minerva. Not close to Trastevere though, I'm afraid!

We went here the night we got engaged and it was very nice. Nothing grand, but filled with locals. Nice enough for us to have a bottle of bubbles in.

Hosteria Glass was pretty special when the wife and I went a few years back, and I think it'd be smart but not one the top re dress code. I'm sure I wore jeans.

For drinks in Trastevere there's a place calked Bar San Calisto, where you pay a guy near the entrance and get your drinks from the bar. It's very reasonably priced, and where the locals seem to drink. Cafe Lettere is another bar we found to be really friendly.

It's an awesome city. Have a good one!

Watching with interest (going at the end of October with wife + two 8 yr olds).

So that's my question - where's good for families?

Went to this place http://www.trattoriadacesare.it/ last year on a recommendation from a travel writer who specialises in food.

It was wonderful but you’ll need to book. It was fully booked when we turned up on the off-chance, but they stuck the two of us on a small table as we we’d made the effort. Which was lovely. I think we were the only non-Italians there. It’s not too close Trastevere but a short/cheap cab ride or even the bus, which is frequent and stops around the corner.

Good luck in your search.

We were in Rome this summer, staying by the pantheon. We just rocked up to any Trattatoria in the area - all great and very kid friendly!
