I used to deliver his Sunday newspapers. News of the World and the Sunday Times. Always a generous tipper at Christmas.

A life well lived, even if he wouldn't of remembered half of it, RIP Ozzy

Truly gutted.....

A great performer - have seen him a few times over the years.

Didn't get tickets to Villa Park but watched the live stream.

Great performance from him even sitting down - he looked genuinely happy.

What a legacy to leave too with £150m raised for 3 charities.

You will be massively missed, a legend, the founder of metal.

RIP Ozzy

Many years ago when I had terrible taste in music and beloved but long since past uncle saw little RM was a musically conflicted soul. He bought a case of vinyls to our house one christmas and proceeded to give me a musical education so that 'I didn't need to listen to that Micheal Bolton shite your mum keeps playing'.

Sabbath was his band and some of the first songs I heard. The education and shared love of metal was a common bond right up until Brian passed. I'm pretty bummed at this news, I hope Ozzy knew how much of an impact he and the band had on so many.

Like legends, metal never dies.

I remember taking my 18 year old daughter to see Greta Van Fleet and for the encore they played War Pigs as an homage to Sabbath. All the 18 year olds in the audience knew every word. Revered by everyone, whatever their age, his songwriting transcended generations.

The first Sabbath album (and much else)  is the work of utter genius!

He became a bit of a cartoon character in later life, but why the hell not when you basically invented metal and you’ve nothing you need to prove to anyone

What a life!

Seemed very sudden after that final gig but what else did he need to hang on for? A proper legend, in all senses of the word - myths and inspirations for so many

Sad news. Yes, even I've got a Black Sabbath album. Used to enjoy the old reality show too. And I've met Kelly! RIP

We knew it was coming but it's still a shock. His music was a big part of my formative years and has remained so over the decades.  Glad I got to see him live in his prime. RIP fella.

I owe so many of my best and oldest friends to the scene his work spawned, I'm pretty torn up, not going to lie.

But what a send off he got to have.

Remember seeing him at the Ritz in Manchester, late 80s. Absolutely awesome seeing him and his band in such a small venue. RIP Ozzy.

I started with Paranoid in the late 70's. A bit of a worry for my slightly straight-laced parents at the time. It's going to be a noisy commute tomorrow.

Sad news.  First time I saw them in the 70's was at the Royal Albert Hall, I kid you not.  Pretty wild especially the fans.  Second time was at Hammersmith Odeon, at the end Ozzy took off his (Biba, natch) kimono and threw it into the crowd where I successfully fought for it.  It didn't get washed for a long time!  They put on a darn good show every time and kinda surprised that he kept going for as long as he did.  There'll never be another Ozzy, RIP.

Aw shit. Head banging at the sixth form disco, metal head mates at uni (I was more new wave and folk rock), tales of mad nights with Don Powell of Slade, l'homme soumis on MTV... thanks for the memory Ozzy.

Ozzy did it better but my attempt to immitate:

It's incredible he made it to 76, same for Iommi & Ward.

The story in Motley Crue's book, the death of Randy Rhoads, the quad accident, the bat.  RIP Ozzy.

Good that he made that last gig.

I stage jumped at Donington 84 when he was mysteriously half way down the bill but blew everyone else off stage; waltzed round the stage with him before the bouncers got me.

He was a sweaty ****er, right enough!

Me too !   Always thought it an unusual place to have Ozzy playing. All the other gigs I went too in Manc were always at the Apollo.  But I still remember it.  Jake E Lee on guitar.

I only got to see him once, 1995, the retirement sucks tour at Brixton Academy. it was exactly as you'd expect, a very entertaining evening. everyone got soaked, not just the buckets of water into the crowd, he'd brought a proper water cannon. Now Brixton had a sloping floor then so it was a challenge to not migrate closer to the stage at that point.  Fear Factory supported, they were proper shite.

RIP Ozzy.

I'm normally quite unmoved when news of a famous death breaks, so I'm quite surprised at the sadness I feel with Ozzy passing. I'm putting it down to Black Sabbath representing a change in in my musical direction that pretty much set the foundation for how I lived my life. His music was that fundamental to me and to just about every musician I am now fortunate enough to call friends.

RIP Ozzy, your music genuinely made life better for many people.

Been a Sabbath and Ozzy fan since I was a teenager. Didn’t manage to see Sabbath with Ozzy back then as they kicked him out a couple of years before I was allowed to go to my first gig (Iron Maiden Beast on the Road Tour). But I did see him a few times just as Ozzy. Fast forward a few years and I saw them do a warm-up for the 13 Tour (at Birmingham O2 Academy), then on the tour, and again I saw them in Birmingham for The End Tour. Unfortunately I didn’t get tickets for Villa Park - given what has just happened, I am doubly-gutted I didn’t manage. He can never be replaced. Don’t Rest In Peace Ozzy, Carry on being you and bring Hell and Happiness wherever you end up \m/
