I managed to kill my old MacBook with one drink too many - 2012 model so no huge loss. Fortunately I have a new MacBook Air and almost everything backed up on iCloud including about 1,000 graphic designs I’ve created. However, the old machine had lots of downloaded fonts installed that aren’t on the new machine - if I open artworks without the fonts installed they just default to Arial and makes a mess/faff to sort. I’ve got a USB disc caddy so looking to take out the old SSD drive, plug it into my MacBook and copy/install the fonts over. Anything I need to be aware of before I just plug this in?
What version OS was the dead machine running? AFPS has some oddities compared to HFS+ file systems. If it's HFS+ formatted it should be plug and play once you plug the caddy in to a USB port.
It was pretty up to date - it only expired in the last month or so and I can’t interrogate it to find out.
Stuff it in a caddy with USB2 or 3 connection and restart using it as the start-up disc (hold down option key as you start and select the now portable disc as the start-up disc). Go make a hot drink and then do an about this mac check using the menu under the apple top right.
OK, took the drive out to find that Mac SSDs of that vintage are a different shape/interface to regular SSDs so now waiting for an adaptor to arrive…
