Morning all, nearly got ran over on my way to work this morning by a fellow considerate road user....

Petty I know but I checked the plate on the gov.uk vehicle tax checker. The car is taxed but the website says the plate should on a grey mercedes, I was nearly hit by a white BMW. It was a private plate so easy to remember.

How do I go about reporting this (not that the police will likely care..)? I'm in Leeds/West Yorkshire

Not petty at all and the more of these nobs we can get off the road the better. I would try non emergency police number or crimestoppers.

There's not much they can do if the plate is registered to a different car (unless the owner of the white BMW is also the owner of grey Mercedes).

It might be that the plate is in the process of being moved via DVLA, but it should still be reported, https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/report-it . You might also be able to use a service at DVLA with appropriate additional notes https://www.gov.uk/report-untaxed-vehicle

The more important thing is their manner of driving, WYorks have an Op Snap if you have video footage https://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/SaferRoadsSubmissions or the general reports link above

I once got hit by a Range Rover, it was proper nasty - I went down at speed and smashed my helmet open on a bin fixed into the pavement.

Went to the police, made a statement (being made to feel like a criminal in the process) and the ultimate response was "nuffin we can do, it was a false plate". (London Met)

Anyway - I'd report it, good luck.

Presumably they could put out an alert so it triggers anpr and they can get it stopped. Hands up who's cool and watches traffic cops *man with arm raised emoji*
