My nephew is 21 next week and LFC mad! We’re looking at getting him the black away top which can be either £80 for a ‘stadium’ version or £125 (!!!) for a ‘match’ jersey - they look the same to me! Will he even notice the difference as I’m not paying £125 for a ****in footie jersey! The price on these things is ridiculous - my first replica jersey in 1985 was all of £17 and I saved up for it!

Of course he’ll know. They’re expensive for what they are.

I thought "stadium" shirts were natural fibres more suited for casual wear, while the match jersey was the "technical" nylon shirt for actually wearing while playing football. So while some might think the smelly nylon version makes them more like their hero's, the stadium version is probably the better option for most.

edit: actually liverpool state the difference between the jerseys, looks like it is mainly just fit.

What is the difference between the Match (Vapor) kit and the Stadium kit?

The Stadium version is a standard fit for a relaxed feel, perfect for in the stands or on the pitch
LFC crest and Nike logo embroidered - the fans favourite
Nike Breathe fabric to help you stay cool
Nike Dri-FIT helps you stay dry and comfortable
100% recycled polyester fabric

The Match day version is an Elite Performance Jersey with a slim fit for a tailored feel.
Developed for athletes, it is the on-pitch choice.
Nike Dri-FIT ADV technology helps you stay dry and comfortable.
Raised knit in high-heat areas provides additional breathability and delivers a unique look.
100% recycled polyester fabric.

Think of it as the difference between a mountain bike jersey and an e-mountain bike jersey 🙂

I've still got several mid-late 80s LFC jerseys ... my kids had no interest in football though so i was going to put them on the bay or something like that. I'd be happy to get 125 quid for them!

They have the match day shirt on the Kitbag site for £99 at the moment. I’ve been using that site for football jerseys for the kids. It’s all genuine.

Thanks aberdeenlune.
Ever heard of The Sports Creed? They have the stadium in the right size for £63 but never heard of them so reluctant to pull the trigger.

Thought this was going to be about replica-replica shirts from China. £80 for a kids T-shirt that they grow out of or wait a few weeks for delivery of a £13 equivalent (including the shorts for kids sizes) that you really can't tell the difference. Official football shirts are a rip off. I read an article about the Sport Direct vs Newcastle shirts kerfuffle and it mentioned in there that Sports Direct buy the replica shirts direct from Nike for about £12 and then sell them at £80+.

FWIW with inflation that 17 quid in 85 would be around 65 quid now, so the stadium version isn't that far off.

Good job he didn't ask for a gravel specific checked shirt.
