18W G24 4 pin bulb. Not shifting.

Is this meant to simply be pulled out? Scared I'm going to bring down the whole ceiling (Taylor Wimpey build).

Mine used to pull striaght downards, but does that one have a lockring on it? Or is that just to attach the bit where the shade goes?

Try another one in the house, see if it's just as stuck?

Googling shows a push-fit, looks like it should just pull out. But the profile of that fitting doesn't look much like any image I can find.

That lock ring looks like the retainer for the shade clips.

Can you squeeze outwards between the lamp and the lockring, rather than just pulling? Will mean no stress on the ceiling.

You'll need to wiggle the thing like mad - hateful things.

Looks like the grooved ring just below metal shade retainers is a plastic lockring - would be why it's profiled and that looks like a thread disappearing into it...I'm guessing fixing it in means pushing to fit and then tightening lockring? So unscrew lockring and bulb should pull out...
...is my guess.

EDIT: hmmm...maybe not, on looking again, it looks like that grooved bit is part of the overall fitting above the bulb. That does look suspiciously like a thread though.

You can only pull on a g24, I think - there's a square "axle" that won't allow any twist.

I'd be holding the bit with the writing on in one hand and the octagonal-looking bit in the other. Then prise apart.

oooh, like here:

Great, thanks for the replies - sounds like it should just pull out. I could loosen the plastic lock ring, but didn't seem to make much difference in terms of getting the bulb out.

For some reason its the only one of its kind in the flat (kitchen) so can't compare like for like.

Anyway, brute force it is. Will rip the thing off after work.

Yep one to hold the bulb and the other six to rotate the room 😆

I never had this problem as a software engineer as it was clearly a hardware issue.

Stick a metal knife in and lever.

What is the worst that could happen? 😉

It takes seven STW'ers to change a light bulb

One to ask about changing the bulb.

One to suggest that a different sized bulb would be better as the "it would make the fitting come alive"

One to suggest that the OP should use candles " coz that's what I use and they're better

One to proclaim that lightbulb manufacturers are part of a conspiracy to keep us all in the dark.

One to interject with random non-sequitirs in questionable English.

One to throw in a few snarky comments and random humourous pictures in an attempt to derail the thread along a bizarre but entertaining comedy tangent

One to complain about the spelling / grammar and the fact that you can't count to seven properly

... and one to offer actual practical advice about changing the bulb because someone always helps in the end.

You forgot the one who bemoans non-standard light bulb fittings.

It's a lamp not a bulb... 😉
Sparkles at work get a wee bit hot under the collar when we fitters call a lamp a bulb!!
