Replacement for Samsung A10 phone

My wife's ageing A10 is no longer charging properly. It's been problematic for a while now, but she needs it for work a lot, so a new 'phone is the only sensible option. My answer is of course an iPhone, but it needs to be funded through her work, so no. I have no idea what Samsung 'phones are all aoburt these days, so could do with some advice. Doesn't need to be bells and whistles; this replaced a J3 or something I think. And no; we don't want recommendations for Motorola, Sony, Nokia etc. Definitely not a Poco phone; a friend went through 3 in a few months, they seem truly terrible. So just Samsung please. The current equivalent of an A10 or as near as really.

I have A52s as a work phone.

It. Just. Works.

Takes a decent snap, good battery, smaller than many. I am three years in on it and it is fine. Beige. But good beige.

Yep. Wasn't that. Tried a number of different leads, all fine with another 'phone.

Too expensive. Preferrably as cheap as poss really. She's not very techy, so doesn't want anything too fancy.

A13 5G seems ok.

That might be so but if the charging port has some compressed fluff or a little bit of "stuff" on a contact, any number of leads that work on other phones still won't charge it!

Though it sounds like its old enough that the battery is a bit FUBAR

If you haven't got any real requirements beyond an affordable samsung then just have a look on Argos/Amazon/PC World and buy whichever Samsung is the right size/price.

Personally I'd get one that had 5G if possible.

5g is maybe a plus.

One of the downsides of Samsung et. Al. Is all the crap they come pre-loaded with and you can't get rid of.

That's where the google pixel phones come in.. Minimal bloat and longer term security updates.

If I had to get a new phone tomorrow I'd probably get a pixel 6a.

But I've currently goy a pixel 4a and have no interest in upgrading it until it's well and truly knackered.

5g is definitely a plus, the roll out isn't going to reduce, most networks offer it for no extra charge and if you haven't got it nearby you can switch it off if you find the battery suffers. If nothing else, buying a 5G phone shows the manufacturer is thinking of the future with that model.

Samsung being full of bloat doesn't really apply anymore either, in any case the OP specifically stated they wanted a Samsung so it's not an issue for them.

Samsung are also good on updates now as well: https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-android-updates-1148888/

You might not be interested in replacing your Pixel 4a until its knackered but Google aren't promising to update it beyond this time next year.

S10e? Few years old now, so cheap. Mine's two and half, maybe three years old now and it's still great. Felt like the battery was getting weaker recently, but no, it's just I've gotten in to Pokémon Go.

As it's going to be used for work purposes, it needs to be a fairly 'current' 'phone. Refurb deals are ok, but it might be at least part-funded by her work*. It needs to come from a reputable supplier, so Samsung UK, John Lewis, Carphone Warehouse etc. The A13 has a dual SIM feature, which would negate the use of a separate 'phone. Can you turn one SIM 'off' if you're not working, say at weekends/holidays etc? Is it easy to switch between SIMs?

*There are also security/GDPR issues which mean a Samsung 'phone is apparently better than some other brands (the IT service the organisation uses recommends Samsung over other brands). I know bugger all about all that kind of stuff though.

Old A10 phone user here. It's been a good solid phone in most ways.I understand, however, that the newer A series phones are not so good. I will be moving to a Moto G31 in due course. That security recommendation sounds a load of baloney to me.If the wife needs some ideas/entertainment she could watch the techspurt on YouTube.

Yes, very easy. You just need to remember - personally I'd have a separate phone, then you can just switch it off and there's no doubt the weekend's started.

Anyway I'd just get whatever Samsung phone is in budget. Reliable, decent quality, and fairly minimal crap pre-installed (these days).

Brilliant.

It's an app that accesses a database. It was developed only for Android as far as I know, and the developers say Samsung 'phones are preferable. That's all I know.
