Hey all, does anyone know the cheapest way to replace a lost car key?
We have the spare so not an emergency but don't want to rely on just the one.
It's a 2011 Nissan micra 1.2.
Worst case scenario is go to a Nissan dealer and pull my pants down but is there a cheaper way?
Thanks

Places like Timpson often have a key programmer. Last time I got one done it was around £45

Oh thanks.. That doesn't sound too bad.. Is that for a key with remote locking button?

Timpsons just quoted me £167 for my Berlingo.

Massively depends on the car. Expect the £45 above to be about the minimum for a coded key. Up to whatever extortionate cost a dealer will charge. 2011 Micra probably at the bottom end at a guess.

Cheapest way, join aa gold member with key cover

Accidentally loose key when you have no need of car

AA sort new key and you get 1 years breakdown cover as well

Or, buy car insurance with key cover, ensure this does not effect the ncb, and claim through that.

Ahh thanks will check insurance.. Didn't think about that... Might be covered under brakedown or vehicle insurance!

£250-350, on average. A pair of keys for an EcoSport went missing several months ago, it had to be towed away from where it was parked to a new location and a process put in place to get a pair of new ones.
Last week, I was doing maintenance and despatch checks on a bunch of cars, sat in a BMW I was looking for the keys, spotted them sat in a tray in the centre console, then saw some more on the passenger seat, under the seatbelt. They were Ford keys. The purchase of new ones hadn’t been approved yet, so I was a very popular bunny with my boss!
It’s an important part of my job, making absolutely sure that any given car leaves with all the loose items it came in with - which can be a challenge sometimes…

Timpson charged me £25 to copy the one for my Transit, no remote though but I don't need that. A copy is cheap and easy.
Locksmith charged me £200 to open my old Mondeo and then make and program a new key for it when I lost main one and the spare. Very similar looking keys too. TBF it did take him ages though
