Hi,

Car needs some work doing, primarily needs a new pulley bearing on the alternator, so that will be changed, might as well change the aux belt too since you can get them for a tenner and I'm not too sure of the last time it was done but do I change the tensioner pulley too?

Usually I would but money is really tight at the moment and its an additional £40, however is it going to be one of those 'it cost more in the long run' sorta deal?

It's a Clio DCI, do about 5k a year and me and my brother are doing the work, if it makes any difference.

Ta,
Naff

Change the belt - yes
Aux pulley - up to you! I wouldn't, as the worst than can happen is a thrown belt and resultant loss of battery charging, power steering and possibly AC.

Note - I don't know how 1.5 dci engines are laid out

I would yes, as it will be less of a pain if it were to fail at a later date. I would also ensure you change the water pump eegardless of condition while you have the belts off. For the extra money it will save you having to strip it all out again.

Forgot about water pump - unless that is powered by the cam belt...

Disagree.

When my Beemers belt snapped it took out the fan, housing, pulley and various bits of plastic - the cause? The waterpump had seized...

Luckily chain-drive so no cam/valve problems.
