Hello all
I've got a scratch\gouge in a white MDF ikea cabinet. Its quite noticable (its through to the MDF) and in a fairly prominent place. What's the best way to repair this? Is there something you can get to fill the scratch back in?
H
use a white wood filler and a palette knife?
You'll probably find it hard to exactly match the white though.
Buy a new cabinet from Ikea or put something over it!
Filling it is the easy part, matching the colour and texture of the finish will be almost impossible.
I'd either go the whole hog and fill with P38, sand back smooth and paint the the door(s) with mini roller for a proper repair or go the other extreme and just touch in the scratch with a bit of white paint and a fine brush.
If you're gonna do it properly then do it properly otherwise do the minimum acceptable.
Colourfill
look at gel coat repairs - they come in various colours and are basically coloured epoxy filler. (try a test patch to make sure it doesn't react...)
Peel a bit off an un-viewable part of another cabinet and glue that on.
Otherwise fade in* some white paint.
*of course I have no idea ho to do that.
thanks guys. Think I'll give ColorFill a go - looks like the right thing
Its just that standard 'cabinet white' so I figure it should be a relatively easy colour match?
White insulation tape. 🙂
